Now that you have a basic understanding of Podcast Marketing.

Let’s get down to one of the most effective tools for research & data gathering through Reddit.

Why do you need Reddit?

Reddit is one of the best tools for growing your podcast and the best place to find content ideas. Use it wisely!

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Unlike all the other social media platforms Reddit is a community-based social media platform.

SELF-PROMOTION IS NOT ALLOWED!

This platform allows users to craft conversational content instead of promotional content. The main goal is to promote conversations over self-interest promotions.

Here are some guides to help you get started with Reddit:

Build your profile — pick a username of your choosing & fill in the information needed such as profile picture, cover photo, & social links for your listener to view your podcast via your profile.

Understanding Karma — Karma are points you earn on Reddit that help you earn a good standing as a contributor to each community you communicate with. Please note: Not all communities allow you to post & the best way to earn Karma points is by reading the rules of each community group before posting anything.

Create meaningful content — As a podcast marketer, the best way to gain attention on Reddit is by simply providing meaningful content on your given community. The more you post meaningful content to more attention you get from others who are compelled to be a part of your podcast journey. For example; If you are a massive MJ Fan you have in-depth knowledge about a topic in MJ’s life that you find valuable to share the more you share and build a conversation around that topic to more upvotes you get.

Understanding upvotes & downvotes — Unlike Facebook & YouTube’s like & dislike buttons. The system for checking whether people are truly engaging with your content on Reddit is by them upvoting or downvoting your content.

Always keep engaging with similar posts — the key to gaining more attention on social media is valuable content. Whether that is from your own posts or by commenting on others as long as you build that relationship with your listeners that is how you win on Reddit.

Use Reddit as a research tool — Running out of content ideas? Don’t worry Reddit has your back. Don’t be afraid to utilize the search engine of Reddit to get content ideas for your next episode.

ADDITIONAL NOTE:

Please be mindful of certain communities that you join before you post anything on their community page because you have to acquire certain karma points first.

So always read the rules:

Solution:

Find communities that have high engagement and don’t require karma points first to gain more karma points before joining the big communities.

Conclusion

Reddit is an amazing tool that you can use to gain more conversations and more listeners + it also acts as a research tool for your podcast.

What more can you ask from this amazing social media platform?

Are you a fan of this social media platform?

Leave your thoughts in the comment section below!

Cheers!
https://medium.com/media/ba5e5cf81a0bfef1e7a140f46d468d22/hrefhttps://medium.com/media/d9c0bbce8691b22e9fafb7a15924a11d/href

Podcasting is a long-term game.

So having a plan can set you up for the long run.

If this blog inspired you to get started on your podcast journey as an educator.

We are looking forward to seeing you inspire students for generations to come!

Cheers & keep going!

Being able to put yourself out there in the open allows you to open a conversation within your niche that your audience may not have considered.

Don’t overthink your structure: Her simple structure especially her interviews has some form of flow allowing her to allow her guests to be comfortable through the entire recording.

Value over Time: Each episode is not time-focused it’s more value-focused.

Ability to create a haven for your community: While creating content outside of podcasting. Ria documents her journey as an event host/radio host DJ over on TikTok garnering millions of views while building her community through her journey. So don’t be afraid to build an audience by documenting your journey. (There is always someone out there that will appreciate you.)

Why did I choose to review this particular podcast?

Ria Ramirez is an amazing conversationalist, the way she delivers her energy as a conversationalist makes you want to sit & listen as she shares pieces of her life experiences that you may find relatable in your life.

Conclusion:

If you are struggling to figure out how to deal with life.

I highly recommend Ria’s Podcast.

If you found this review helpful don’t forget to follow Ria’s Podcast in the link below⬇️

Till Then Cheers!
https://medium.com/media/8766debed03258c2a86cf3b84bba6326/href

They practically can take your podcast anywhere they want.

Less Visual Appeal: Outside of your content becoming easy to consume. You don’t need to spend a lot of energy producing a highly visually appealing type of format (for example, video format) for your audio podcast instead you use simple types of graphic art for your entire episode.

Lower Production Costs: All you need is a mic, your story & yourself to get started. Let’s not overcomplicate that!

Cons:

Limited Reach & Engagement: Granted that you will have less visual appeal for your audience. You might consider this a pro or a con depending on the type of audience you are trying to appeal to but if you are aiming for a wider audience sticking to audio might not reach them.

Difficult to Brand: It is tough to brand your podcast granted that you will be competing with thousands if not millions of audio podcasters out there.

Photo by Sam McGhee on Unsplash

Let’s go for video!

We all know that video is slowly taking over mainstream media but remember it is a double-edged sword.

A great example of an audio podcast you must listen to is: The Joe Rogan Experience

The most popular podcast of all time which needs no further explanation.

Here are some pros & cons to consider:

Pros:

High Reach & Engagement: Getting the attention of your target audience will make your marketing much easier for you.

More Visual Appeal: The more value you add to your content, especially in your short form makes it easily appealing for your target audience or a general audience to consume your content.

Easy to Brand: Show your face as a brand makes it easier for your target audience to reach & relate to you. The more they see your face the more they can connect you to your podcast.

Cons:

Higher Production Costs: Video podcasts require more equipment & editing time (whether working as a solocaster or working with a team) compared to traditional audio podcasts, making them more non-budget-friendly.

Production Complexity: Putting together a video podcast requires tons of energy. It begins with scripting, research, recording, post-production & marketing. It requires a lot of you to put your content together.

Time-Consuming Consumption: Unlike Audio podcasts, if your audience wants to view your podcast they have to sit down religiously to consume it. Especially if the interview is newsworthy or highly informational for the given audience.

Consider a third option; A Hybrid Approach?

Can’t seem to make up your mind on what medium to go with?

Try option C!

Here are some pros & cons to consider:

Pros:

More Creative Outlets: Having more than 2 mediums to be experimental with your content gives you a clear understanding of what can work for you!

Broader Reach: Having both mediums offers an interesting way for you to grow reach.

Improved odds for Accessibility: Being accessible to your target audience is like being a high school friend who keeps in touch with you constantly.

Cons:

Overwhelming options for your audience: The more the merrier they say, but the more the scarier is the reality of handling a hybrid option. Building an audience based on where they can find you is good but if you intend to tap into a different type of audience make sure your primary audience is aware of the shift in content mediums.

Complicated workflows: If managing one workflow is not easy imagine handling 2 more in the pipeline. Creating complicated workflows can lead you to overwhelm yourself before you even hit that record button. (The longer the content the more information you can create within one long form)

Cons:

This strategy is not for everyone. (If you have a team of editors, social media managers, & more. You can achieve this strategy with ease.)

You might not be able to leverage the attention span of your target audience on social media if you are focusing only long-form. (Try different content types to see what works for you!

#2 — Micro to Macro Strategy:

Now we enter the Micro to Macro Strategy.

Micro to Macro Strategy

How does this Work?

Just imagine doing the opposite of the work from Macro to Micro, starting from one short form content.

This strategy is helpful if you are desperately running out of long-form content ideas to publish on a given day.

Pros:

You need to be able to generate ideas on the spot & find ways to create them using your best abilities.

The more you make the more you can compile them and convert them into an episode or a blog for future reference.

Cons:

Remember creating short-form content is an art form your first 5–10 seconds are crucial to engage with your audience.

To maintain consistency here you have to find ways to record content if you are creating content daily in advance!

#3 — Content Blast:

How does this Work?

Combining both strategies mentioned above can help add more flavor to your content strategy.

Pros:

You are not limited to one strategy based on the time you have allotted for creating content.

With the proper planning & execution, you can take both strategies to the moon & back

Quantity over quality creating short form is an easy way to get content out but the more you post the more likely some of the content might get drowned by other content.

Cons:

You can easily feel overwhelmed by the amount of creative outlets you can create. (Choose one strategy above, master then diversify if you can)

Over posting may lead you to be banned from certain platforms like Instagram. So be careful when creating content blasts. (Use scheduling tools to help spread them out within a given week.)

BONUS MARKETING STRATEGIES

As promised in the beginning we also want to help you create interesting content marketing ideas from the content strategies mentioned above.

Fish Net Method:

How does this Work?

This can help capture a wide audience outside of your given target audience with the help of relatable content such as memes or content types that can inform a massive audience to be a lifelong fan of your show.
1 Pro:

You have the chance to widen your ideal target audience to a wider market.

1 Con:

You might not gain loyal customers but onlookers who find one post interesting over your entire podcast.

Fishing Method.

How does this Work?

To gain a deeper understanding of your target audience you need to reach out to them & dig deep into personal problems & figure out how your podcast can help them in the long run.

1 Pro:

This requires a one-on-one approach.

1 Con:

It might take a lot of energy from your side if you are doing multiple things along with this approach.

I hope this blog post helped you in the long run if you have questions feel free to drop them below.

Who knows it might end up in one of our content release in the next coming days!

Cheers!

Based on the overwhelming response we got from our first episode we decided to take a deep dive into solo casting & how you can win as a solo caster.

Are you ready? Let’s go!

Step 1 — Plan out your abstract goals!

Planning may seem like a daunting task to us all but remember if you are on this journey for the long term you might as well clear the windshield before driving forward!

Instead of making a solid plan which we know you won’t follow through I’d suggest you try creating an abstract plan & here is how you should go about it:

Write down everything you have on the tip of your head be it passion, interest, or hobby. Maximize your thoughts & slowly boil them down 50 ideas to 10 until you get 3.

Why 3? There is no harm in having 3 ideas you can combine for your show. The struggle to stick to one niche is like putting yourself in a box with less creative freedom so having 2 backup topics can give you an edge over the other content creator because you can kill 2 birds with one stone by mixing all three topics/subjects with your creative spin & personality.

Step 2— Research AI tools to help streamline your workflow.

Please Note AI is not a magic bullet that can fix all your problems consider it as a tool to get you from point A to point B.

Utilizing it to your advantage can help you focus on the more important thing which is how to create amazing content!

Step 3— Start with what you have!

The most limiting factor that a person has is the fact that they need to have the best gear to get started.

Well, that is further from the truth.

Starting with what you have can set the needle forward rather than overthinking the first move which will paralyze you from even starting.

Step 4— Think podcast vault mentality.

This part is inspired by Prince!

According to people who worked with Prince. He created more music than any musician living & compiling them all in a vault on his estate.

How does this apply to podcasting?

As creators, it is your job to document your content from NOT only your show but your journey.

People buy from people!

In order for you to have that connection with your audience you must be able to exist in their mind & in their hearts

That doesn’t mean that all the content you document needs to be posted online compile them look at them subjectively and learn from them.

Step 5— Lower your expectations!

Expectation is the killer of dreams!

Expecting to win may seem idealistic it doesn’t mean it will happen all the time.

Your first 10 episodes might not get the view you are expect BUT that doesn’t mean you should give up.

It means you should keep going!

This is not a race it is its journey & those that last longer are those that outlast them all.

I hope this helps you on your solocasting journey!

If I miss anything do let me know!

Cheers!
https://medium.com/media/d133e9c0d4396fd1d2ece1fd45b0eab9/hrefhttps://medium.com/media/6262fa368734f7dc98dd9689febe9c80/href

Sam has 1.2k members & counting!

Sam’s advice on how to build a community?

Collective Community Tips:

Network, Network, Network!! — The most powerful way to build your social currency is having the ability to network. It doesn’t matter whether you are from the same niche or a different niche as long as you serve a similar goal or you simply like the person then learn to network!

Develop deep human connection! — Leaving the interest in connecting for the sake of popularity. It is in our nature to connect with kind intentions. Helping others means more to life than just simply existing to exist. So learn to develop deep human connections with others

Learn to bring people together. — Building a community is more than just having the ability to network & to connect. People want to be a part of something they belong & as a community builder it is your goal to find them & bring them together no matter how far they are.

Personal Community tips:

Learn to separate business & life both online & offline. — Yes, understandable life gets complicated & so does business both online & offline. Having the ability to separate them both can set you apart both personally & professionally.

You intend to share your personal life & leverage your personal life with limitations — Contradicting the thoughts mentioned in the previous point. if you intend to share your life with others. Learn to put some sort of limitation because remember not everything in life deserves a spotlight.

Problems in community building

Beware of scammers, especially in your online community. — The most consistently annoying part of building a community is having to deal with people who join with the intention of only self-promoting themselves over being a part of a community & engaging with others. Learn to be ahead of such people & weed them out as soon as you find out they are in the community for selfish reasons.

Lessons in community building

Be an authority as a community leader! — Owning & leading a community requires a lot of effort. Just like the previous point, one must take the initiative of being a community leader by setting a standard among your community.

If you enjoyed reading this case study feel free to tune in & follow Autism Rocks and Rolls Podcast!

Cheers!
https://medium.com/media/be87291e0bf904f6e5197f560b7c169a/hrefhttps://medium.com/media/04540d245dd7e30a0ca26f04edf83e76/href

Being able to read data to make wise decisions with your marketing team.

3. You will be able to find a way to acquire quality talent for your podcast list & much more.

Learn how to sell.

The most important part of everything mentioned above is the ability to sell your vision through multiple people around your network.

Selling your podcast network to your team, listeners & more requires trial & error.

Make sure you should be able to see beyond your journey & find a way to sell that through your podcast network.

If you found these lessons helpful always remember your network means more than just a “passion project” Consider it a “purpose project”.

For you to provide value to the world through your podcast network.

Enjoy the ride!

Cheers!
https://medium.com/media/6e56bb6c3a4be3ee524a97fa54fcf080/hrefhttps://medium.com/media/fe16f1a2b1b0d1e0004e6018691723ec/href

Know thy platform properly.

As a podcast marketer, you need first to ask the important questions who is your target audience & where can you find them?

If you need a guide kindly refer to the link below.

https://www.wordstream.com/social-media-marketing

2. Forge a path forward with strategic wisdom.

Each Social media platform has different attack points for targeting the right audience.

To build data from each platform, it is best to build an account under your name first to test & understand how each algorithm works.

Once you’ve understood how each platform works.

It is time to plot the groundwork for your attack plan.

Each attack plan should be as effective as each tweet, post, photo, long-form video or reel should at least fall under three categories: reach, impression, or engagement.

3. Strive to inspire and inform with your creative endeavors.

They say content is king but content without context is simply a king without a thrown.

So how do you leverage your content type for your audience:

Be relatable

Be knowledgeable

Have a unique perspective (Don’t be too generic)

Be the bridge that helps your audience travel to your podcast island of awesomeness.

Don’t be limited to using only one content, start utilizing all content types to your advantage.

For example:

If you focus on building short forms from your podcast.

Try to repurpose them into a tweet, carousel, or even a meme.

The sky is the limit when developing micro content ideas [ aka shorts or reels] from your macro content [long form aka podcast episode]

4. Be patient in your journey, for rewards come in due time.

Remember not every piece of content you publish will be a home run especially if it is dependent on the algorithm of the platforms you choose.

But do not be worried about the outcome so much.

There is a reason why you build data behind each content you publish that can be tracked on the insights of each platform such as Business Suite, Hootsuite, and much more.

Use the data you gather wisely to build your content marketing accordingly.

5. Let discipline guide your path, ensuring a steady pace.

Sure people might say, “why do you need a schedule when at the end of the day someone who likes your content will end up viewing your content somehow.”

Here is the reason why that is a myth:

Your audience looks at consistency as a form of discipline.

Granted, they don’t expect to know what type of content you will publish the next day, but they will definitely expect you to provide them with content for them to have reason to come back to your show & grow from being a stranger to a life-long listener.

If you found this guide helpful always remember to enjoy the journey, not thy destination.

Till then see on the podcast Promise Land!

Cheers!
https://medium.com/media/a2540b6773a80a53eb0ce4575d2bd6f9/hrefhttps://medium.com/media/6e3ea525805012f1f94caf18bb05d70d/href
Clare form

PodReview #1 — I heard the Undertaker’s Podcast here are my thoughts!

Who knew the man who lasted for 30 years in the WWE would end up becoming a podcaster just like us eh?

HERE ARE SOME IDEAS YOU MIGHT WANT TO INCLUDE FROM THE UNDERTAKER’S PODCAST

Tip Number #1 — Consistent collect stories

Imagine being in the biggest wrestling company for 30 years & not having a single story to share.

Feels odd, Right?

There is always something you can share even the tiniest moments in your life can make a big impact on your podcast’s content down the line.

Tip Number #2 — Be Authentic

This might seem like generic advice for all podcasters but being authentic is the hardest thing to do since everyone is trying to build an image around what they want to be.

But losing the piece that makes them who they are in the first place.

Every time you listen to a story of Mark Calaway (Undertaker’s real name) you get the sense of being in that moment with him regardless of whether he is talking about being in the ring or being on the road 24/7.

Authenticity is what connects you to the right people and that is how you build long lasting relationships with your listeners.

Tip Number #3— Having a well-rounded co-host

Of course, Undertaker’s podcast would not be complete if not for his well-rounded co-host Matthew Lyda.

Here are 3 tips on how to be a well-rounded co-host:

#1 — Have good chemistry & YOU must know what YOU know!

Your chemistry with the main host should be the #1 priority.

Without it, your content will feel forced or even be the main reason why you will give up before even hitting the record button.

Honestly, I was expecting the episode to be all about wrestling content only but out of the blue, they end up talking about hunting, & more.

I have nothing against that!

But you know content is content.

The more you are in the moment, the more real the episode feels as a listener.

#2— Don’t be afraid to share your opinions.

Having the Undertaker sitting opposite you on a podcast seems like a challenging task to handle.

If I were to be his co-host I would be scared if I shared a thought that might offend him & I might end up getting choked slammed through the table.

I can not imagine that happening to me on a podcast!

I have give it to Matthew based on how the conversations go I noticed that he knows a lot about the Undertaker which makes the conversation feel less of an interview and more like a get-together with a friend to crack a few beers with.

Which is truly surprising!

#3— Just have fun!

Honestly, this podcast is quite fun!

Listening to the Undertaker read an ad is not something you can get used to.

From “Rest in peace” to “That is the first ad of our show”

Doesn’t feel right with me.

The bottom line is the show is terrific and it is a nice way to get to know the person who has gone through it all for the past 30 years.

Tip number #4 — Assemble YOUR Avengers wisely!

From production, content & marketing.

I have to praise the team behind it all!

If not for them this show would not look as it sounds, look & feel as good as it gets.

To quote Homelander;

“It was Perfect, Perfect everything down to the last minute detail.”

Having the right team behind you can make or break your podcast so hire wisely!

You might be wondering, what if I do not have the budget to build a team for myself?

Don’t worry I got you!

The hardest truth about this question is that you have to put in the work yourself first.

The advantage of doing everything by yourself sets you apart, knowing that one day you will end up having a team of talent.

They will know what you are doing behind the scenes, & also in front of the mic as well.

So Don’t lose hope & be open to learning new things.

You are not limited by your tools with the introduction of AI softwares out there, I do believe AI helps you streamline your workflow but then I’m getting way ahead of myself.

So let’s just reserve this topic for another blog post. Shall we?

Conclusion

I truly love the Undertaker for context I don’t even know whether to write the Undertaker’s real name “Mark Calaway” or address him as the undertaker in this article.

If this article helped you don’t forget to follow & let me know whose podcast you would like us to do a review next.

Let us know what your thoughts are on the Six Feet Under podcast.

Till then, Cheers!
https://medium.com/media/ecb63df8eb4ba8a867c9194b1362437b/hrefhttps://medium.com/media/a9f875bdac7aa3751a7d04599174b6e9/href
