After creating successful programs in Batey Libertad, their goal is to replicate their model in other bateys and marginalized communities in the Dominican Republic. Yspaniola’s vision is for the graduates of our programs to possess the knowledge and tools they need to successfully advocate for themselves and their communities.

Option 2 — Forgotten Animals

To save as many animals as we can from despair in countries where animal welfare education, rights and resources are most deficient. Unfortunately, neglecting, abusing dogs and cats and treating them as commodities is still a widely common cultural norm in former Soviet countries. There are hundreds of petting zoos, animal circuses, and travelling dolphinaria. No wildlife sanctuaries exist to rescue those wild animals. They are changing the culture of animal treatment; discouraging their use in entertainment, inhumane treatment and abandonment.

Yspaniola works with at-risk youth, many of whom who were born in the Dominican Republic to parents of Haitian descent. These Dominicans of Haitian descent are not recognized by the Dominican government as citizens. For this reason, they are often denied basic rights like education, health care and other public services.

All funds raised by Yspaniola support their education programs: from preschool classes that give kids the best possible start to their educational journey, through to full university scholarships for talented students whose families lack the resources necessary to help them achieve their dream of a university degree.
