The same scene repeated itself with other shamans and witches. If there is one thing the supernatural intermediaries of Lima have in common, it’s their meticulous care for image, including a peculiar, crowded aesthetic. More than just a marketing strategy, their image has become a fundamental component of their magic. The shaman (or medicine person, or witch) comes out fully dressed up. If you look at them close enough, you’ll never find two shamans that look exactly alike.

In this shelter all the bloods south of the border flow together. They have every accent of spanish, and all the reasons. They come here looking for a refuge, a point where to rest during their voyage through the map. They don’t have money but they do have lots of stories. According to the General Migration Direction of Guatemala, on the course of 2014 only, more than 30 thousand people have been deported back into the country by air. Some of them end up here. Others need a place to rest while they are in transit to the north, or just somewhere to feel safe and unthreatened. All of those stories come together here in solitude and wait.
