Being a bartender for almost a year and half now, I’ve made and sampled some pretty interesting things. I know all of the basic drinks, and I know some really wild drinks. I also create a lot of random drinks as a bartender, especially when I’m bored (I’ll come back to this idea).

webstaurantstore.com

Although it’s not one of my favorite cocktails to make, given the easiness of it, I love mimosas. One of my favorite things to do is go to brunch, and you can’t go wrong with a mimosa and a scrambler. Given everything that’s going on with coronavirus, going out to a restaurant for brunch is non-existent right now. Luckily, making mimosas is basically the easiest drink you can make as a bartender–in other words, making one on a Sunday morning in your kitchen isn’t rocket science.

Sometimes a regular mimosa just doesn’t cut it for me, so I started playing around with my own. Emphasis on creating random drinks–even if it’s from my kitchen table and not behind a bar. With the help of Pinterest and knowing flavors, these are my top 5 favorite twists on mimosas, especially for summer.

*These measurements are based off a standard size champagne flute.

1. Bellini

This is a pretty standard champagne cocktail that is often sold in bottles, but it’s super easy to make at home if you wanted to. All you need is your choice of champagne, and 2 oz. of peach juice. I’m usually cheap, and just buy V8 or something along those lines. If you want something fancier, you can do your own twist on it.

mindfulavocado.com

2. Strawberry Lemonade

This is by far my favorite–it’s just champagne and 4 oz. of sparkling strawberry lemonade. The kind from Trader Joes is my favorite, but you can use any. If this combo is too bubbly or too sweet, you can use regular lemonade or non-fizzy strawberry lemonade.

3. Pineapple Coconut

Definitely an acquired taste, but nothing too out of the blue. This takes 1.5 oz of pineapple juice, and 1.5 oz of any coconut juice blend, topped with champagne. My friends really enjoy this one, I’m just not a huge fan of coconut.

gtslivingfoods.com

4. Lemon Vodka

If you like to have more than one drink, be careful with this one! All you need is 1oz of lemon juice, and 3.5 oz of vodka. Not exactly a breakfast drink, but if you like stronger sweet drinks, this combo is for you!

5. Kombucha

If you don’t like kombucha, ignore this one. If you do, give it a try. I’ll admit I was skeptical, but it’s pretty tasty. You need half an orange squeezed (or just 1 oz. of Orange Juice) and 3 oz. of Kombucha. Voila!

5 Summer Twists on Mimosas was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Alright, let’s face it–everyone can use a little bit of “upping” for their Instagram story game. You know those pictures you take on a trip that aren’t exactly in-feed worthy, but you still want to post? That’s what Instagram stories are for, at least in my opinion.

I posted this on New Years Eve in 2019, and I got a ton of responses about it!

You have your picture, you go to upload it, and you just aren’t feeling it. It’s too…blah. We’ve all been there–sometimes the filters, markers, or stickers that are built into Instagram just aren’t enough. You need something more.

There are hundreds of apps that have templates you can use for Instagram stories. Over the past year, I’ve discovered my favorite one, Unfold. I genuinely get excited to use this app, because there’s so many options. I am picky when it comes to my stories and apps, so believe me when I say this is the best one for giving that extra flavor to your Instagram stories.

The main reason I like Unfold is that it’s glitch free, and easy to use and navigate. Some apps are so frustrating when trying to move around a picture or get a text that you like–Unfold is super easy to maneuver, and you get the hang of it fairly quickly. Another advantage is that you can even use videos, whereas most apps only allow pictures.

The options on Unfold are ENDLESS! I typically do collages, but there are so many themes you can choose from. There’s ones that are more modern, some vintage, and some look like bulletin boards–the options are truly endless. For example, there’s an option called Digital Wave–it looks a lot like the layout of a Macbook. There are over 20 fonts to choose from, numerous colors, stickers, stamps, and so much more.

I love using Unfold for birthdays, travel pictures, quotes, or even mini stories. If you look below, you’ll see a layout I made for my mom on her birthday–I found the cheetah background from Pinterest, and then used three pictures I liked of us. I was able to add a cursive font, and then I used music once I uploaded it to Instagram.

In honor of 2019, I also made a collage full of fun things that year had to offer me (pictured at the top). I posted this on New Years Eve, and it got a lot of feedback on Instagram–so many people thought it was a fun idea, and wanted to know what app I used for it.

The only downside is that if you want the full features of the app, you do have to pay $3 a month, which is still a steal. Even without paying, you still get a lot for it being a free app.

This is the only app you need to up your Instagram game was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Denim is one of the most important parts in anyone’s wardrobe–it’s a staple fashion trend. It allows for a very casual outfit, or even very dressy. You can do light jean shorts and a t-shirt, dark jeans for a dressier outfit, and a jean jacket is a safe bet to top off any look in my opinion.

The problem is that denim in tricky–you want something that’s not too stiff, not too cheap, stretches somewhat, and has a good wash to it. For this reason, I’ve always had the hardest time finding any sort of quality denim that I truly like and am willing to purchase again.

Everyone has had at least one pair of jeans or maybe a jean jacket that’s their favorite, that they refuse to get rid of until it tethers, or outgrow it. For the longest time, I wish I could’ve felt like that about every piece of denim that I bought. After really taking the time and putting in the money to invest in these brands, I can honestly say that I won’t buy any jeans, jean shorts, or jean jackets from any other place.

BDG has trendier but also everyday style jeans (fashionjackson.com).

1. BDG (Urban Outfitters)

This is number one because I LOVE this brand for jeans. They have so many trendy styles, and they’re not super expensive ($55-$70). My friend had a pair of black jeans by BDG that I always wore–they were so soft, fit my body really well, and for the amount of times they had been washed, they looked like they had just been bought. I finally bought my own pair on top of a few other styles, and the rest is history.

2. GAP

My sister used to work at Banana Republic, and GAP was one of the “sister” companies. At the time she had gotten a discount there, and had been buying a lot of jeans. Their jeans are typically a little more expensive than BDG, but not by much. They have very basic jeans, so if you’re looking for an everyday jean, this is your place.

3. ASOS

If you’re looking for a trendier denim of any sort, this is your place. I really love ASOS (it’s an online brand only), because they have everything from bleached denim, to tie dye, to basic, to printed denim. Aside from jeans, they have a lot of fun jean jackets and shorts. Probably not the place to buy a casual pair of jeans, but nevertheless, their denim pieces make a statement for a lower price.

ASOS has cool “out-of-the-box” jeans for a decent price (wheretoget.it)

4. Topshop (Nordstrom)

I found a pair of shorts from Topshop once at a thrift store, and ever since I’ve been obsessed with them. I wear them probably 6 days out of the 7 day week, and have three different washes. Unfortunately, my find at the thrift shop was pure luck because their jean shorts never go on sale, but for the price, they’re worth it.

I love oversized jean jackets because they go with everything (pinterest.com).

5. Levi’s

Jean jacket GALORE! Someone could argue you don’t need more than one jean jacket, but I love having a basic blue one, a lighter one, and one for the fall/winter with some faux fur. Look no further than Levi’s. The trucker style jean jackets are so cute, and you will have their jackets forever, because they are made so well.

The five best places to buy denim from was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

For fall quarter and winter quarter of my senior year, I worked at a publication called Modern Luxury as an editorial intern. Modern Luxury is known as one the top luxury publications, and I had a large interest in writing for them as a journalism major. As an editorial intern, you work on fact checking, editing, and pitching/writing your own stories. Essentially, it was right up my alley.

I wanted to work there since sophomore year, and applied every quarter since, but never had the experience. I decided to give it one more go summer going into senior year–I got an interview, and I ended up getting it. I was thrilled.

One of Modern Luxuries issues is NS, which stands for North Shore.

My other internships weren’t really anything near a real publication, so this was no doubt going to be a change for me. I was definitely nervous about starting and working with real editors and going to an actual office, but I looked at this as a learning opportunity and journey. I went in on my first day with a level head, but I knew after the first day I was going to learn a lot, and it wasn’t going to be easy.

While that internship prepared me the most to work in a real-life setting of a publication, there were 5 key things I learned that I’ll take with me wherever I end up.

1. Do not underestimate yourself and writing ability.

When I first started, I felt like the underdog. Although that was probably true, I wasn’t treated like one, and neither was the other intern, Tess. I would read the editors work or other writers work there and think to myself “If only I was that good…”

I quickly realized that as days went on, as I wrote more, and as I started to get the hang of the type of writing they published, I could really see myself as part of the team. I truly believed in myself as a writer when I would get less and less feedback and corrections, and praise from my editors. I’ve been published over 25 times in my 6 months working there, so that has to mean something.

2. Sometimes you need to step away from your work.

Although this is a common theme amongst any writing, it really resonated with me at Modern Luxury. People don’t pull great stories or articles out of thin air, and when you do, it shows. If you take the time to plan, draft, edit, re-plan if you have to, you can make something great. If you’re having trouble, step away, and it WILL come to you.

This is one of my stories recently published in the winter, about things to do in Chicago.

3. Listen and trust your editors, even if it doesn’t make sense in the beginning.

When I first started, some of the things my editors would tell me sounded closer to pig-Latin rather than English. It’s similar to when you were little and your mom or dad told you to not do something or to do something, and you didn’t know why, but you did it anyway. Then when you’re older, you randomly understand why one day. Since I had never worked at a publication before, some of the terms used were borderline a mystery to me. If you do what you can with them in that moment and use their advice to the best of your ability, one day it will make sense. I don’t know how else to explain it, but it will.

4. Attend and help out at every event you can.

Often, Modern Luxury would need extra hands at events. While everyone is busy and has an outside life, Tess and I always tried to help out when we could. You meet a lot of other people in different departments, and then they know who you are from there on out. Not only that, but they know you’re willing to put in extra work–you never know when you’ll need someone like that to vouge for you.

This is another one of their publications called CS, Chicago Social.

5. Ask questions. If you don’t ask, you don’t know.

I could not stress this one enough. I’m someone who gets anxiety just thinking about asking a boss a question (whether it’s risky or not), but you just have to rip off the band aid. After fall quarter, I was scared to ask if I could come back winter quarter. I asked, and they wanted me to. I was scared to ask how to format something, I asked, and my editor Laura was so glad that I did. My point being, you don’t know unless you ask–especially if it’s a yes or no question. This applies everywhere in life, and you won’t get far without it.

I interned at a publication for six months, and here’s what I learned: was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Podcasts have been on the rise for the past couple of years now, and there’s something out there for everyone. I mean literally, they have podcasts about everything. They’re perfect for walks, commutes to work, getting ready in the morning, or even lunch breaks. Regardless, podcasts are a new form of reaching audiences other than music, tv, or social media. They’re entertaining, informative, humorous, or sometimes all of the above.

I started listening to podcasts after I took a podcast class here at DePaul beginning of my junior year (2018). I never really had an interest in them before that, so I decided to give them a try. I really liked ones that just talked about pop-culture, or ones like Morning Toast, Girls Gotta Eat, and occasionally ones about murder. I realized that there are so many I might actually like, so I started listening to more and more, and have really expanded my likes and genres in terms of what I’ll listen to.

You’re probably asking yourself: who cares? Why should I care about podcasts? Why do people care about podcasts? Two answers: they’re real, and they’re relatable. Many people who start podcasts, are not famous, and live their lives much like you and I. Listening to someone talk about their rich or celebrity lifestyle is what we get on tv, which don’t get me wrong, is entertaining in some aspects. But podcasts are a way of knowing you’re not alone in weird or awkward situations. They’re a way to inform yourself on a topic that you know nothing about. They’re a way to imagine the way a murder scene might have happened, vs. trying to watch a cheesy re-make on Reelz. They’re told by average people, and there’s a connection you won’t find elsewhere on social media or tv.

My point being, podcasts might be more useful in your daily life than you might think.

I feel that Gen Z’s specifically, might be skeptical about wanting to start listening to podcasts. The stereotypes that they’re for girls, they’re not informative, or they’re “not interesting”, should be immediately thrown out. The following are 5 podcasts for 5 different types of Gen Z’s, that I hope will change your mind about podcasts, if I haven’t already.

Jackie O and Claudia Oshry (twitter)

1. Trust me. Jackie O and Girl With No Job (Claudia Oshry), give you latest updates on celebrities, recaps of shows, and advice on basically everything.

2.

Peel and Stick Wallpaper Myths — Busted or Confirmed

I’ve always loved the idea of wallpaper on an accent wall in my room. I saw things on Pinterest with wallpaper that looks like brick walls, shiplap, or anything in between that just completely makes the room, without ruining the wall with real wallpaper. Real wallpaper is also very permanent, whereas peel and stick is not. I wanted to do it on my first room at home, but never did. I wanted to do it in my room at my apartment, but never did. I was left with a Pinterest board full of ideas, but ones that I never actually executed.

I love this style in this bathroom (etsy).

When I moved back in with my parents after the pandemic started, I moved into my older sister’s room that had been vacant since she moved out in 2018. It was much bigger than my childhood room, and it was essentially a new start. I finally put my foot down and decided I was going to put up peel and stick wallpaper.

After figuring out that I wanted a white-wash brick on one wall, my mom searched around online and found some options, and we ended up getting it from Target. $180 dollars and 12 hours later, I did it with the help of my dad.

Let’s put it this way–it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park to put it up, but I was pleased with the final product. Below are 6 myths I attempt to confirm or bust based off of my experience deciding to buy and put up peel and stick wallpaper.

This is the one wall in my room–towards the top left corner, you can see some of the bumps/air bubbles that were difficult to get out.

1. Wallpaper is not “IN”.

In short, this is 100% incorrect. My mom thought it was funny the first time I told her I wanted wallpaper in my room, because she said it was very “80s”. I find that in this day and age, that is less and less the case. I see peel and stick wallpaper a TON on Pinterest in rooms, in-between stairs, and even kitchen backsplashes. It’s more or less a cheap but fun way to give an object or space an extra “flare” if you will. Don’t let anyone talk you into thinking this is an old-fashioned choice for a room. This myth, is busted.

2. It is hard to coordinate.

If you know what you want in your room and know the desired end-goal, this is not difficult. Sure there are tons of styles of peel and stick wallpaper, but already going into it with knowledge about your desired style is the key. If you’re going for a farmhouse style, shiplap is a good starting point. If you want more “industrial chic” (as my mom called it for my room), a white-wash brick is good. Another busted myth.

3. It is time consuming and labor-intensive to hang it.

I guess everyone’s concept of time is quite different, but it took my dad and I Friday night and all-day Saturday to do one wall. So yes, you could say it’s time consuming–especially considering my dad estimated the whole wall would take about 4 hours. The labor was just as bad, if not worse. You almost need three people to help you, considering all that’s involved with unrolling it, getting it lined up, cutting it, peeling the back off as you go, and all the standing and holding. So yes, it’s also quite labor intensive. If you don’t enjoy long or tedious projects, this probably isn’t for you. I was hoping I could bust this one, but I just can’t–confirmed.

This picture has about 3 panels in it, each one taking around 45 minutes to hang.

4. It is not a good choice for kitchens and bathrooms.

Although I’ve never had it in a kitchen or bathroom, I think given the labor it took to put on one wall, I can’t imagine trying to work it around a toilet in a bathroom or a backsplash in a kitchen. I’m no professional, but it’s sure not a task I would want to take on. As mentioned above, I have seen it in kitchen’s, I just don’t think it would be the best choice. So in my opinion, this myth is also confirmed.

In the right room it works, but this is a super busy pattern that you may start to not like, especially in the long run (homedepot.com).

5. You will get tired of it very quickly.

To put it shortly, don’t pick a busy print to begin with. Pick something you’re not going to get tired of. If you are going to pick a busy print, make sure it’s not on a large wall. If you stick with neutral colors or a basic print, you won’t get tired of it (or at least not as quick). Busted

6. It doesn’t go on smoothly.

To be frank, no. This is another myth I wish I could bust, but I just can’t. Numerous parts in my wall happened to have air bubbles or bumps that were borderline impossible to get rid of, unless you wanted the pattern to be off. We used everything needed to smooth out the paper as you slowly stick it to the wall, and there were still problems. We tried top to bottom, bottom to top, and everything in-between. While the bumps are minimal or were thankfully covered by furniture, it was the last thing from going on smooth. Confirmed.

Overall, I was pleased with the result. Not being a professional and never having to put up wallpaper, it could have been worse. The main takeaway is this: it’s tricky to work with. If you can get over that and the time and labor aspect, do it. I personally like longer projects, and would do it again in hopes that it would be easier with more knowledge under my belt.

Peel and Stick Wallpaper Myths — Busted or Confirmed was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

It probably will not be very often that I’ll talk about another blog on my own blog, but KERRently is an absolute exception. Courtney Kerr is everything and more you could ask for in a blogger–she’s the face of all things fashion, beauty, and everything lifestyle. She’s blogger goals, to say the very least.

My sister, Emma, originally got me hooked on Courtney Kerr. While there are so many bloggers like Courtney out there, she is by far my favorite. She’s not afraid to admit that her closet isn’t all designer, nor does she necessarily want it to be. She’s real, and she’s relatable, with a unique twist on style. She’s also been around for quite some time and has become such a huge hit from an early age with her blog “What Courtney Wore”, which is now KERRently.

While her blog is one thing, I’ve recently become obsessed with her YouTube channel while in quarantine–specifically her Amazon hauls (it is one of her favorite sites to order anything and everything off of), where she often purchases a lot of random items, but explains why she loves them.

I like these videos because 1. who doesn’t love Amazon, and 2. The items she posts about are relevant year-round. Her January 2020 Amazon Favorites is my current favorite–mostly because I’ve tried a good amount of these products.

Watch Courtney’s Amazon Favorites of January 2020

(kerrently.com)

While she explains all of the products and links them, the bolded ones are the one’s I’ve tried, with my reaction.

BC Powder Cherry (for hangovers, headaches, body aches)

I’ve never heard of BC Powder until this video, and I LOVE it. She explains it perfectly–a pixie stick! They work better than Advil in my opinion.

Kerastase Volume Powder Spray

I’m a sucker for a good finishing spray, and although this one is on the more expensive side, it’s worth the money especially if you have frizz, static, or anything in between.

Marsvovo Sneakers Athleisure Shoe (SO CUTE)

Anyone who knows me knows that I love sneakers, and these are literally ¼ of the price of Adidas, Nike, or any other designer sneaker. Like she said, you probably wouldn’t want to run a marathon in them, but for an athleisure shoe, they’re SO cute.

Goodthreads White Oversized Button Down

Although this isn’t available, it’s such a versatile shirt and worth the money!

Mellanni Sheets

I could be a saleswoman for these sheets. They are so soft, and you can’t beat the price. I can’t even describe how good they are.

Leave it to Courtney Kerr to find the most random, yet useful things on Amazon.

This is why Kerrently should be your go-to blog was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Let’s face it: almost 2 full months of quarantine has been tough on everyone. Motivation can sometimes lack in all areas–school, work and relationships are just a few. For me it’s all of the above, but one place I certainly have lacked is my normal skin care regime. Why? Because like everyone else, I’m not leaving the house often.

I used that as an excuse the first few weeks of quarantine to not take care of my skin like I usually do, but after my day-to-day routine changed drastically in every other aspect of my life, you’d be surprised how many factors can affect your skin. From first-hand experience, stress, diet, and sleeping habits have been the most common ones that have affected my skin–on top of not doing my normal skin care routine. Another problem is the expense–while I’m not working at the moment, I don’t exactly have $300 to drop on skin care products.

If I ever felt a drawing on a different level, it’s this one. A quarantine MOOD. (Pinterest)

However, I’ve decided that not leaving the house often and expense is no excuse for me to not care of my skin. This quarantine has made me realize quickly that skincare doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. These 5 products are must haves, and check off my entire list–they’re easy to use, do not require a lot of time, and will not break the bank in the long run. Did I mention? THEY WORK!

Colleen Rothschild Intense Hydrating Mask ($45)

Although this is a more expensive buy, it lasts for a year because you only need a small amount 2–3 times a week. It’s great for any skin type, smells amazing, and makes your skin really smooth and even. Put a pea-size on before bed, and sleep with it on overnight.

Crystal Collagen Gold Eye Masks ($7 for a pack of 10)

This is definitely the best bang for your buck–I SWEAR by these. I get such bad bags under my eyes sometimes, and these really help with the collagen. I usually use them every other day, and just put them on for 5–10 minutes.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask ($20)

While this is somewhat pricey for a lip mask, it will last you a year because you don’t need a lot. This is perfect for chapped lips, or if you just want to give your lips a boost overnight. There’s also numerous flavors and scents!

So much skincare, so little time. (raesways.com)

Mario Badescu Facial Spray ($12)

I received this as a gift one year, and have been using it ever since. I call it the all-in-one spray, because it does everything. It is perfect to refresh your face in the morning, after makeup, or before bed. I also put mine in the fridge, because it feels so much better on your face when it’s cold. Again, the price is unbeatable.

NuDerma High Frequency Wand ($47)

My favorite by far–estheticians have used these for decades, and they REALLY help any type of skin. High Frequency is a well-known rejuvenating treatment respected in the skin care industry since the turn of the century. It’s been proven to stimulate cell renewal and improve skin care product penetration and absorption by gently warming and oxygenating the tissues of the skin (Art of Skin Care Inc.). For reference on price, a lot of the facials that use high frequency can cost over $200, and you can get this kit for $47.

I didn’t write about any, but if you can afford a good serum, they’re great for any last step of a skin-care routine. (refinery29)

It comes with 4 glass parts that attach to the wand–one to treat broader areas like cheeks/forehead, another for small imperfections like zits, one extra (for anywhere), and a comb to stimulate hair growth. You can also control the frequency from the knob for your liking and skin. You can use this as often as every day, or once a week (which is what I do). I’ve noticed a visible difference in my skin tone, acne, and blemishes since using this product.

Product total breakdown: $131 (two of the products will last you a year, and one will last you a lifetime).

Okay, so taking care of your skin is still sort of an investment–but you will thank yourself in the long run. Taking the time to get into the habit of a skin care regime (or back into one), can really benefit your skin and overall confidence.

5 Face Products You Need During Quarantine was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Ladies, I think we all know how incredibly frustrating finding a tote bag can be–we want something big, but not too big, fashionable, but also casual, and something we can use for more than just one occasion. I know for me, I typically want something designer–because lets be honest, who doesn’t?

There are certainly a ton of designer totes that check off those boxes. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull, the Goyard St Louis GM tote, the YSL black leather tote. The problem? These are all over $1,000. And unless it’s just me, I can name so many other things to spend $1,000 on if I found it in the street tomorrow.

The Longchamp Le Pliage Shoulder Bag (Large) in black. (blondeandbagels.com)

A bag that I find is certainly underrated in terms of quality, versatility, and of course price, is Longchamp. What started as small leather goods company in France, eventually expanded to include women’s handbags, luggage, ready-to-wear, shoes and men’s leather collections. Longchamp is known for its expertise and excellent craftsmanship, and was soon a major luxury brand. (Longchamp.com)

I got my first Longchamp bag as a gift in 2016, in the color black. It was the Le Pliage Shoulder Bag (L). They have different variations of this bag, including a smaller one. But this one is the perfect tote size, and comes in so many different colors.

Still to this day, it is the bag I use almost every single day. Here are 5 reasons you should consider this tote as your next purchase, if you don’t have one already. Did I mention I have two?

1. It’s classic.

My mom always told me that classic in terms of fashion, means that it doesn’t go out of style. That means you can use it any season, for as long as the bag holds up. Which brings me to me second point.

This is me in France, December 2019, with my favorite Longchamp (it’s the same style as the one above)!

2. The bag wears well.

This tote stays in great shape, given its nylon outside and leather straps. It’s easy to wipe down if needed and to care for–for that reason, they stay in great shape. You don’t feel worried to bring it out in any certain weather condition–much like you might be with an expensive tote. Another perk is that their bags are environmentally friendly, which you can read more about here.

3. They go with any look.

The Longchamp tote looks great dressed up, or dressed down, which is a big thing for me when I’m buying a bag. It is a casual bag when you want it to be, and a nicer bag when you want it to be.

Me again! This outfit is definitely more casual with the baseball cap and sweatshirt, but I love styling my bag with more casual looks.

4. They work great for school, work, and travel.

And those are just a few. I’ve found that the Longchamp tote is the perfect size for folders or a laptop, while still fitting a wallet and numerous other things. This leaves a lot of gray area for anything you might want to store in this bag.

5. The price is unbeatable.

For a luxury leather goods brand, you cannot beat the price. The Le Pliage Club shoulder bag is $195 or lower. It depends on the size, style, and color. With that in mind, you still can’t go wrong with the price. You could have almost 7 Longchamp bags for the price of one Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote. I’ll let that sink in.

Long Live Longchamp was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Wake up. School. Sleep. Repeat. If you’re lucky enough, you can add “work from home” somewhere in that mix. This is what nearly all of the U.S. population has been doing for weeks on end now, due to the global pandemic we are currently living and experiencing.

From losing two of my side jobs, to having my last half of senior year being basically cancelled, to sitting on the couch doing nothing other than my homework and going on a walk, this has been my personal life spiral since Coronavirus got out of control. I try my best to remind myself that I am extremely lucky to be quarantined with my loving family, I am still able to attend online school, and I have a roof over my head and food to eat. But as of lately, my positive thoughts will be overridden in a matter of seconds with fear, anxiety, and a mix of emotions I can’t control–and I know I can’t be the only one.

For me, taking a walk, sitting somewhere outside, or listening to music helps me re-center after a tough day. (pinterest.com)

No matter what your current situation is, it’s more than likely you’ve experienced one or more of those emotions–even before the global pandemic. The worst part is, sometimes it’s impossible to quite them.

Headspace is an app one of my friends turned me onto almost a year ago, and it’s dedicated to help you have a healthy way of thinking, and doing. It’s one of the only apps committed to advancing the field of mindfulness meditation through clinically validated research, led by Chief Science Officer Dr. Megan Jones Bell. Published studies, external scientists, prestigious research organizations and their science team have also shown Headspace can improve mental, emotional, and social health. I ramble about it to all of my friends, family, and even people I have no business rambling about it to. It’s that good. Falling asleep seems to be where I struggle from time to time, so the sleep tab is my most visited. From sleeping sounds, to sleepcasts, to sleeping radio, the soothing voices, sounds, and exercises really help ease my mind.

I even started branching out and using everything else the app has to offer– from meditation, mini animations about changing the way we think, act, and approach things, and mini clips and exercises regarding stress and personal growth, there’s something for everyone, struggling with anything.

These are some of the many categories you’ll find on Headspace with mini animations, podcasts, and words-for-thought. (headspace app)

My favorite part about this app, is that it’s free features are amazing. I pay the $11.99 monthly to get access to everything, but you can also do a free 7-day trial. For everything the app has to offer, it is 100% worth it–and it takes a lotfor me to pay for any app. They’re even offering many services you would normally pay for, free of cost right now because of the pandemic. The only way for you to truly trust me on this app, is to download it and try it for yourself.

Pandemic aside, it could benefit everybody to practice a small act of mindfulness everyday, no matter what the scenario. Whether you want to reduce stress, improve sleep, increase your focus, or improve relationships, this app will help you get in the right…well, headspace.

To learn about headspace, go to https://www.headspace.com , or download the app.

A Mindful Approach was originally published in HOLY GRAIL HAIL on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
