            <content:encoded><![CDATA[<figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1024/1*3rDeL2G9H8B2kwHKr-LiXQ.jpeg" /><figcaption>Credit: PaulSouthWales, <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/paul-south-wales/14631204257/">https://www.flickr.com/photos/paul-south-wales/14631204257/</a>.</figcaption></figure><p>Late last year, New Zealand released its second National Action Plan for the international Open Government Partnership initiative.</p><p><a href="https://www.opengovpartnership.org/"><em>Find out more about the Open Government Partnership</em></a></p><p>The purpose of this site is three-fold:</p><ol><li>to share knowledge and resources related to NZ’s OGP commitments</li><li>to help to track NZ’s progress against those commitments</li><li>to provide a place where civil society can gather to discuss and debate the issues surrounding our commitments and progress.</li></ol><h3>The commitments</h3><p>The action plan, which covers the period from 2016 to 2018, lays out 7 commitments:</p><ul><li>Commitment 1: Open Budget</li><li>Commitment 2: Improving official information practices</li><li>Commitment 3: Improving open data access and principles</li><li>Commitment 4: Tracking progress and outcomes of open government data release</li><li>Commitment 5: Ongoing engagement for OGP</li><li>Commitment 6: Improving access to legislation</li><li>Commitment 7: Improving policy practices</li></ul><p><a href="http://ogp.org.nz/national-action-plan-2016-18"><em>Read the OGP NZ commitments in full</em></a></p><p>Each commitment has at least one central government agency, and a set of promises and deadlines attached to it.</p><h3>Progress tracking</h3><p>To get the ball rolling, we’ve assembled a simple spreadsheet which lays out the commitments, planned timelines, and gives people the ability to report against and track actual progress.</p><p><a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1adAwGoqhOVkf5vCtQn1x_sMToPX8znjRh0f9Jlk66Tk/edit?usp=sharing"><em>Track OGP NZ commitment progress</em></a></p><p>So far there’s only one tab, as an overview — we can easily create a separate, more detailed one for each commitment if people want.</p><p>You’ll notice that a number of the planned deadlines are either fast approaching or have passed — we also hope this will act as an impetus for the State Services Commission (the lead agency for OGP NZ), as well as the relevant commitment lead agencies, to update us all on progress.</p><figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/564/1*Qwa9CbxqGqRNWDn3-OxtEg.png" /><figcaption>Credit: Open Government Partnership.</figcaption></figure><img src="https://medium.com/_/stat?event=post.clientViewed&referrerSource=full_rss&postId=d18af4a4549f" width="1" height="1"><hr><p><a href="https://medium.com/open-government-partnership-nz/welcome-to-the-discussion-d18af4a4549f">Welcome to the discussion!</a> was originally published in <a href="https://medium.com/open-government-partnership-nz">Open Government Partnership NZ</a> on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.</p>]]></content:encoded>
