A Rule Every Human Being Should Follow

We don’t need more hateful or negative voices. We have enough conflict, anxiety, discord, and animosity to go around.

We need more kindness.

Everyone should be kind to everyone. And that includes you.

Oh, I can hear the objections now:

• If I’m kind or nice, people will take advantage of me!
• I don’t want to be a doormat!
• Some people don’t deserve my kindness.
• There are real problems in the world. People need to speak up!
• Kindness helps the oppressor!

And on and on and on.

Yes, there are bad people in the world. Yes, there are problems and injustices. Yes, there is suffering. Yes, if you’re kind, there is a cost. Some people will take advantage of your kindness and/or won’t properly reciprocate it.

Yes to all that. And yet…

You should still be kind!
