Follower Count Down? Here’s What Medium Did And Why I Think it’s For the Better
What’s in a number? Many Medium writers are waking up to find their follower counts have changed. Some have even changed drastically, here’s why:
What Medium Did to the Follower Count
About a week or so ago I had gotten an email from Medium asking me to take a short survey. It was regarding followers on the platform. It asked a variety of questions, mainly focusing on what my expectations are for followers and what I hope it could be.
Flash forward to the present and I just read a piece written by Medium about the changes to the follower counts and experience. Basically, Medium is looking to keep the platform and its experience as authentic as possible and has been going through and removing any spam accounts.
Writers will likely wake up to a follower count that may be down by hundreds or even thousands of followers.
I’m not entirely sure how many cuts they’re going to make, but at the present moment, it looks as if I’ve lost about 100 or so followers. I may see more coming, or I might not.
It does look like Medium will keep an eye out for these spam accounts going forward and will remove them accordingly, which shouldn’t have too much of an impact on the…
