Further Evidence That Daily Publishing Doesn’t Pay Off
I made more money publishing at only 23% of the rate I used to.
Earlier this month I wrote a post called “I Published Every Day for Nearly 50 Days — Why I’m Quitting Now.” The article was about why I had decided to stop publishing on Medium every single day after having done it for almost two full months. As I mentioned in that post, I think daily publishing has its benefits, but I had become disillusioned by it.
Now, after publishing significantly less in December, I have further evidence that my decision was a good one. Last month, I published 35 stories on Medium — more than one a day. This month I published just eight stories, and that’s only if this one goes live before January. So, as I look at my stats and available data right now, I’ve actually only published seven stories.
For some perspective, let’s look at it like this: compared to November, in December I published
- 27 fewer articles
- which is 77% fewer posts
- and easily 13,500 fewer words (that’s generously assuming that each of my posts was only 500 words)
And yet, despite this sharp drop in new posts, my Medium earnings have continued to increase. Not only that, but I’ve continued to gain more…
