How I Became A Successful Freelancer Without a Portfolio
The steps I took to start my writing journey
Truth be told, I never thought that I would become a content writer.
However, after a series of unplanned circumstances (the place I was working at closed for renovations and all plans were delayed due to labor shortages related to the pandemic), I found myself without a job right amid a global pandemic in 2020.
And I realized that writing could be something that I could do to earn a living. After all, I took literature in school and was an avid reader.
Writing couldn’t be that hard right? I dabbled with blogging before and it wasn’t hard to generate content
A mere 5 seconds later, I realized that a huge problem existed. Or rather, my portfolio didn’t exist yet. I had nothing to show and nothing to apply to writing jobs with.
And as many of you starting on this path would realize quickly, trying to start work as a freelancer can be daunting. No matter what industry you are trying to freelance for, it always seems as though you’d need a huge portfolio before you can begin.
After all, I thought, who is going to hire me if I don’t have an enviable portfolio.
