I Started on Medium to Make Money

Here’s my takeaway three months later

I started my Medium journey — technically — in January 2020.

I came across this community and read a few articles.

“I can write like this… I could totally do this!”

I wrote little articles here and there. Unsure of what I was doing. I had no real compass to navigate this platform.

My stories never caught traction, and I assumed I was doing it all wrong.

One article was curated. I had a day of spiked views and reading, but the hype trickled to a stop, and I couldn’t catch the same wave.

I didn’t cancel my membership. But I did tell myself, “one day.”

The pandemic hit. Work picked up. I felt busy and uninspired. I stopped writing for almost a year.

In April, I quit my job.

In June, I thought I might try my hand at writing again.

In July, my daughter started preschool. I had a decision to make.

See what I could do online with writing or get a “real” job.

I chose the former.

The first thing I did was I wrote a story.
