New Writers On Medium: Stop Complaining That You’re Not Making Big Money on Medium (Yet)

This one’s for the millions of “writers” who just flooded in for a quick buck

Hey. Welcome to Medium. I’m Jared A. Brock. Friends call me Jay. A lot of your posts come up in my feed and they’re driving me crazy. You’ve been on the platform for two or three months and you’re not already earning the same amount as Tim Denning? What a travesty. After all, he’s only published two high-quality articles per day for several years. You’ve published ten.

Those of us who’ve been around the block want to help, we really do. (After all, the network effect means it's in our best interest to do so.) And think about it:

  • Users spend an average of 58 minutes per day on Facebook.
  • Americans spend over 8 years of life watching TV.
  • People spend an average of 40 minutes per visit on Youtube.

That’s the equivalent of billions of people each reading 1,000+ seven-minute Medium articles per month. We writers need to rip eyeballs away from inane, time-devouring clickholes like Youtube and Tiktok and Snapchat, the eye-blurring binge streamers like Netflix, the extremist-brewing sites like Facebook, and the…
