Why are famous people often either overly worshiped or basically loathed? What is it about them that makes them so special to us regular folk?
The ever-increasing celebrity culture in which we live has lots to unpack. I have pondered why we are influenced by influencers. But celebrities bring about more than just influence. They bring about the idolization of people in general.
So what could it be that makes them so attractive to us? Let’s look at some contradictory facts:
Famous people are not necessarily more interesting than average people
Average people don’t actually exist — do they?
Famous people are not necessarily talented or gifted
Famous people don’t necessarily have a job
Famous people are not necessarily more intelligent
Really, famous people are not necessarily superior to other humans in any way
