Why Does Medium Use Stripe?
A personal take on how I don’t understand why Medium has to use Stripe.
Side note: After reading an article on Stripe by , it gave me the idea to write this one. Thanks for the inspiration!
If you’re a qualified member of the Medium Partner Program, you will know that we have to have a Stripe account to be paid. Even if you’re not a member of the program, you should still know you need a Stripe account to be paid.
When I first joined Medium, I had only heard of Stripe because Vocal Media also requires you to have an account with Stripe. I can understand a much smaller creator platform, such as Medium, needing to use a company like Stripe. They may not have the employee capacity to cater to all countries and may not be able to afford the partnership with PayPal.
However, I cannot understand why a platform as large as Medium want to continue to use Stripe.
Why Stripe?
I also wonder about this. Why not keep it simple and use PayPal so everyone worldwide can be paid fairly? When you sign up for the Partner Program, Medium has no trouble accepting payment via Apple or PayPal. So, why not the other way round? Why can’t we take PayPal payments from them?
