Day 9–5 November 2019
30 Days of Life — A Feel Think Do Journal Experiment
Quote
Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.
- Carl Jung
Quote — THINK
I just had a conversation with a friend, a fellow coach, for the privacy of her identity I will call her ‘V’.
We spoke for a few hours about awareness. Bringing what was previously unconscious into our conscious awareness.
FEEL
Curious. Always curious. I have limited knowledge of Carl Jung’s ‘ Perception is projection’ theory. It has perplexed me in the past when I have met someone who is a fuckwit. { I am clearly not a fuckwit so why do I attract them on rare occasions } ‘ V’ and I talked about this today. She is having some trouble understanding why someone she loves shows her a lack of compassion. I am curious if it can be an external projection of her internal world. I know enough to be curious, but she sparks me to go investigate this theory myself. (1)
THINK(1)
Carl Jung says “ Perception is projection. That means we can’t perceive anything outside of ourselves that is not us. You may say yes, I can agree he is my projection, or he is, but that person is certainly not. We tend to take our most unconscious material and project it on people and events around us”. Proves my fuckwit theory wrong lol, maybe I am a fuckwit at times…..
DO (1)
I need to seek more clarity on this, I cannot have an opinion until I have done my research. I did, however, explain this theory to ‘V’, she is open to the idea. I ask her the same question I have been asked. “ Is it possible that his external lack of compassion is an internal reflection of the lack of compassion in you? “
FEEL
We are both left feeling confused. We have become conscious of our behaviour. Our thoughts, limiting beliefs, perceptions and language play a huge part in what we see in our world, reflected back to us as life. (2)
THINK (2)
Could it really be as simple as that? If we change what we believe, think and filter, can we change what we experience?. Changing your internal world seems quite complex in altering the projection of what is reflected. This is why people choose to stay unconscious or unaware, it seems to be in the too hard basket for some and for me on occasions.
DO(2)
Have more awareness. If I don’t like what Is coming at me in life it could possibly be something I am projecting from within me I am not aware of.
FEEL
Tired. I have been working on my internal world for many years now and it is draining at times. There also comes a point where I get resentful. Why do I seem to be the only one working on my shit when other’s get to walk through life being as nasty as last weeks lunch left in a Tupperware container in 30-degree heat? (3)
THINK (3)
Self-awareness is great, but what do we do with it. If I had a dollar for every time I was asked that this weeks lotto ticket would not be needed!
As I always say awareness is great, it allows us to make better choices in the future now that we know what behaviours cause the effect.
DO (3)
Journal my ‘ I Believe’ statements. Analyse what is still lacking in myself.
FEEL
Reflective. I rarely meet people these days who are dominant, controlling or aloof. I am happy that those qualities in me have been sent to the keeper. I know there are still more but for now, I feel ok about my progress. I also feel good that if that were true, the reflections I see are starting to both soften and strengthen simultaneously. (4)
THINK (4)
What else am I still seeing in other’s that could be a reflection of my internal world? I still attract clients with certain issues, ‘they’ say like attracts like, so when I attract people with things they are struggling with, I should do a quick scan like they do as you pass through customs, nope all good, off you go….. or yep, there it is, come this way for further investigation.
DO (4)
Write a list of common patterns I attract. This may help me see what I am deleting, distorting or generalising, the DDG’s.
MY FIRST THOUGHT
If Carl Jung is right, then that creates a whole new question of us creating our own reality. If we are really just watching our internal world play out on a movie screen which we call life, and it is all unconscious, then awareness seems to play a bigger part than we realise. I had heard from a mentor once that 80% of the problem solved is awareness, now I understand why. He did say it and told me to search for the answer myself.
MY FIRST ANSWER
Awareness is key for change, change comes from within, change the internal shit and the external shit feels better.
MY INSPIRATION
If my inspiration comes from awareness, I will continue on my journey to show compassion and love to myself which should be reflected back to me in my reality. I have spent a lifetime learning not to be a victim, not to be a fuckwit, not to be aloof, not to be non-connected and to show compassion to all those I meet, maybe its time I showed it to myself instead and see what results I get. To be consciously aware of what I project, that which is reflected back to me in people should change the people I meet.
