Facebook Issues with Feeld

Good day Feelders!

You might have noticed that when you opened your Feeld app this morning, it logged you out. When you logged back in, you were asked by Facebook to re-authorise Feeld.

Facebook has been going through something of a privacy revamp. As part of that, they expired a lot of their user tokens for applications that use Facebook for authentication.

A user token is like a key that allows an application to ask Facebook for information on your behalf. We use it for the following features:

  • Friend count

To make sure you are a real human, we count how many Friends you have. If they are very few, we double-check identity by asking you to confirm your phone number.

  • Name, email and date of birth

We get your real name, email address and date of birth to also make sure you are a real person and not a minor, or a scammer.

  • Photos

We request access to your photos so you can set them as your profile pictures.

  • Profile ID

We require your profile ID to uniquely identify you in the app. This stops malicious users from registering multiple accounts, ensuring your experience with the app is safer.

  • Friend list

Finally, we require access to your Friend list in order to be able to hide you from your Facebook friends on the app. We don’t store this information and only compare it with other people’s. That way, you won’t appear on your Facebook friends’ Discover in Feeld if you prefer not to.

We never use data for anything else but to ensure your privacy and safety on our platform.

All the data listed above is used exclusively for verifying our users and making Feeld work. We never use it for anything else but making Feeld connect you to people you’re interested in, who are also real humans. We never post anything to anyone on Facebook, we never share any information about you with your Facebook friends, and we never will.
