European Commission calls on Romania to uphold the rule of law.

The European Commission criticized Romania for “backsliding on the rule of law.”

Margaritis Schinas, Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission, expressed the Commission’s concern over Romania’s treatment of Laura Codruța Kövesi. Kövesi served as Romania’s chief prosecutor from 2013 to 2018 and is currently in the running to head the new European Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will investigate fraud, corruption and organized crime across the EU.

New privacy regulations aiding and stunting, Brazil’s legal tech market

As of now, the LGDP is set to go into effect in August 2020 and is expected to impact businesses in many of the same ways that the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation did when it was launched last May.

Among other things, the LGDP requires any foreign entity operating in Brazil or offering services to Brazilian consumers to get consent before collecting personal information and mandates they meet certain transparency and data protection standards.

Federal regulators offer legal hope to food and drink makers using cannabis extract

The $1 billion market of creams and cupcakes made with the highly-touted cannabis compound CBD has recently been clouded by a legal haze. But recently in a statement, federal regulators hinted that foods and drinks made with CBD could have some kind of legal future.

Although it doesn’t get you high, CBD has been linked with potentially therapeutic properties and is the main ingredient in the first federally-approved cannabis-based epilepsy medication.

“Dangerous For Children”: Madras HC Prohibits Downloading Of TikTok Mobile Application

The court was considering a petition seeking ban of TikTok. The petitioner contended that the app is degrading culture and encouraging pornography. He submitted before the court that the children, by using the said application, become vulnerable and exposed to sexual predators. Agreeing with the petitioner, the court observed that it is evident from media reports that pornography and inappropriate contents are made available in this kind of applications.

No prohibition in granting interim mandatory injunctions in appropriate cases: SC

The Supreme Court has observed that grant of interim mandatory injunction is not prohibited, and it can be granted in ‘appropriate’ cases. The bench comprising Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Hemant Gupta observed that an ad interim mandatory injunction, is to be granted not at the asking but on strong circumstance so that to protect the rights and interest of the parties so as not to frustrate their rights regarding mandatory injunction.

Private Entities Also Duty-Bound To Ensure That Their Facilities And Services Are Made Disabled Friendly: Gauhati HC

In an important judgment delivered last month, the Gauhati High Court held that even a private entity also has a duty to ensure that its facilities are friendly to the differently abled. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan also directed the Government to issue General circulars to all Government and private establishments highlighting the salient features of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, and to ensure that public buildings and public facilities and services are accessible by persons with disabilities.
