After tons of reflection and about 15 different ideas on how to make more money, I realized I really just want to be an author. From 2012 to 2015, authoring was my full-time job and it was amazing. I was new to the industry and still learning, so sales dropped due to my lack of understanding of marketing and the such.

But I’ve been learning. For years now. And I believe I can make my books an actual source of income with a little work. And the book idea I came up with last month? It’s amazing!

I have five books planned in the series. I’m also trying something new for this series and that’s plotting. I know, I know. How can I be a writer and not outline? Don’t ask me to explain it, it just worked.

But I found this software, Plottr, and it has been a game-changer. Plottr makes outlining a story fun and organized. Plus, I can color-code the chapters and I really love color-coding anything. The software is affordable and I love having a great way to outline. I decided on the series title and each book’s title in less than 30 min. The entire first book was outlined in Plottr in about an hour. I don’t know why I didn’t try this years ago!

I’ve spoken about Clockify and Grammarly in other posts. I also use them with my creative writing. I have an Excel sheet that I use to track my word counts by day. I’ve been aiming for 2,000 words a day but I do give myself some leeway with that. If I get 10,000 a week, I consider the goal met. No matter how many I write each day.

I hope to have book one completed and the next book outlined by November. I want to release at least three of the books next year. Writing books excites me like nothing else does!

This is your sign. If you’ve been considering writing a book, the universe wants you to. So go for it :)

The links in this article are affiliate links. This means I may get a small portion of the sales if you click and purchase Plottr.
