The first TEDxSantiagoWomen took place at the Main Auditorium of the Law Faculty at Universidad de Chile earlier this month. With over 150 attendees, the talk showcased inspirational speeches from local personalities including Carola Canelo, Montserrat Flores, Josefina Hughes, and special guest Brant Cooper, in a speaker series entitled, “Invented Here.”

  • Carola Canelo shared her experience as a female Chilean lawyer and encouraged people to be fair to themselves, regardless of gender.
  • Montserrat Flores of Proyecto Importa describes how she changes life inside prisons through design, and motivates prisoners to build beautiful products.
  • Josefina Hughes of Forja Chile shared tools for empowering and motivating students with activities outside of school.
  • Our surprise guest Brant Cooper, New York Times Best Selling Author, discussed ways in which true visionaries relentlessly pursue change.

As part of the event, a live video stream of the main event in San Francisco featured influential leaders such as Ingoma Nshya, Sheryl Sandberg, and Catalina Escobar, among others.

  • Through the healing art of music, Odile “Kiki” Gakire Katese of Drummer troupe, Ingoma Nshya, empowers Rwandan women from all walks of life by teaching drum, a ceremonial expression that was once only available to men in their country.
  • Poet and founder of Studio Alchemy, Azure Antoinette, shared her moving work entitled “Inner Voice” that inspired women to reconnect with the inner imagination and confidence.
  • COO of Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg, explains why we need to ban the word “bossy” in business, and her inspiration behind her book, Lean In.

A locally founded group called Female Entrepreneurs of the World partnered with TEDxSantiago and the Law School at Universidad de Chile to host this unique event, with the goal of connecting and promoting the work of female business leaders in Santiago and abroad.
