Your pitch deck is used to communicate key information to potential investors, partners, employees, and/or clients. For that reason, I suggest tweaking your pitch deck, depending on the intended audience.

In this post, I’ll focus on key performance indicators (KPIs) investors would look for in your pitch deck.

The order of your slides is just as important as the information presented. For the sake of simplicity, experts recommend no more than 10–12 slides.

I recommend sticking to 10 slides and adding an appendix with additional info.

Likewise, your pitch deck should “stand on its own”. Meaning, your audience should be able to flip through your pitch deck and gain a general idea of your company and product/service.

10 essential slides for your startup pitch deck:

  1. The problem your product or service addresses
  2. The solution your product or service offers
  3. The target customer
  4. The market opportunity
  5. Your competition
  6. Your traction to date
  7. Your internal financials (CAC, MRR/ARR, personnel, operations, admin, etc)
  8. Your financial projections for future revenue
  9. Your team
  10. Last, but not least, your ask! (how much funding you need and for what?)

As you can see from this list, it’s pretty factual (ie boring).

Make your pitch deck more engaging and memorable by adding an experiential factor.

The experiential factor captures a potential investor’s interest from the very first slide.

The best way to do this is to engage your audience by telling them a story that takes them through each of the slides, hence creating an experience.

The story doesn’t have to be lengthy or elaborate.

Lastly, the goal of your pitch deck is raising a potential investor’s interest in asking follow-up questions, setting up a call or meeting to discuss aspects of your business in more depth.

I hope that you found this post insightful!
