Great FIRE Blogs

As I find FIRE blogs that I love, I will share the with you here. These are nice to remind yourself that you are not alone in your fight for FIRE while in a world that can seem to be driven by consumerism and avarice.

Living the dream

  • Mr. Money Mustache aka MMM is the classic example of a FIRE blog. This blog is the one that ignited the fire (pun intended) in my wifey that led us on this journey in the first place.
  • Early retirement extreme (ERE) is at the other end of the FIRE spectrum than MMM and most other FIRE blogs. The author achieved FIRE in 5 years by looking at the problem from a systems thinking lens and as an optimization problem. Highly recommend this if you’re wondering how far you can take the FIRE goal or if you’re a fan of Tim Ferris-type lifestyle blogs.
  • Frugalwoods this is a couple in New England that documented their transition to FIRE. They achieved FIRE through the ups and downs of the economy, grad school, and a new baby! Now they live in the woods with their baby and live a happy, FIRE life.

On the journey towards FIRE

  • Mad Fientist is a nice place for a more strategic view into FIRE. If you go through the archives, you’ll find that there are lots of subtopics to FIRE, like travel hacking, living abroad, accessing your retirement funds early and the like. If you’re still on the fence about FIRE or need a FIRE pick-me-up, I recommend this post.
  • 1500days is a candid account of a dude who realized, like many FIRE converts, that time is the only asset in limited supply in your life. After his awakening, he set a goal to save enough for retirement. He started later in life compared to the others on this list, which is a testament to the cliché that it’s never too late.

FIRE-like lifestyles

  • Mike and Lauren are an adorable couple that have reached financial independence despite a relatively low-income and a new baby! (Congrats, you two!)
  • Gone with the Wynns is (another) adorable couple that lives the life of luxury traveling the world and living in alternative homes, such as: RVs and sailboats. They document their transitions from one home to the next and their travels. If you’re curious about living an RV lifestyle or sailing full time, their videos will entertain and inform.
