🌚☀️ #InternetSelfCareDay Recap
By Jen Gallo, MPH for Aloe
Happy day after the first annual Internet Self Care Day! We hope you were able to participate yesterday — if you were busy celebrating #SolarEclipse2017 (worth it!), we’re providing a little recap of the first ever celebration of this holiday.
The idea for Internet Self Care Day sprung from International Self-Care Day, which aims to raise public awareness about the importance of self-care, helping you to stay healthy and prevent or delay illness. The event was established in 2011 by the International Self-Care Foundation and is celebrated annually on July 24th. Aloe wanted to create a separate but equal holiday taking the spirit of self-care online, centralizing self-care and helping communities thrive in support of one another.
On August 21st, we along with The Lily News and The Trevor Project, we invited anyone to use the hashtags #ISCD17 and #InternetSelfCareDay to participate. We wish every day could be Internet Self Care Day — feel free to add to the conversation to maintain internet self care as a priority beyond the holiday!
Threads
We started multiple twitter threads for sharing tips, reminders, resources, accounts to follow, selfies, games. We would love for you to keep adding to the threads if you think of something to share with the community!

Kickstarter Live
If you were around at 8PM EST, you got a real treat! Amber and her partner Sam hosted a live chat on Kickstarter where they explained the Aloe app, showed some of the Kickstarter rewards, colored and led guided meditations. Through the meditation practice, they had a chance to discuss the fact that everyone’s idea of self-care is different. For example, meditation isn’t always the best option for everyone at all times. Amber usually asks herself first if she’s in the right headspace to sit with her thoughts. Some days the answer is no and that’s totally okay! Those are days that she plays games or does some other self care activity that helps keep her mind focused on something soothing. It was a great reminder that we don’t have to feel pressure to practice self-care in a certain way.
P.S. Our Kickstarter campaign ends really soon. Like next week soon. This is your last chance to check it out if you haven’t yet, and back or share before it’s too late. All or nothing.
