Hidden gems for art lovers in Milan.

In the 60's, artists started to question the way art was curated to begin to show a strong interest for unusual exhibition techniques. In general, traditional exhibition spaces seem unattractive for two main reasons. Firstly, overly minimalistic atmospheres tend to prevent artists from effectively conveying a powerful message. Secondly, traditional art spaces are sometimes seen as too elitist and not easily. Consequently, the trend to integrate art more or less everywhere is becoming less and less unusual.

Let’s take a short tour at two different price points!

The exclusive one: LARTE — €€€

Located behind La Scala theatre, Larte is one of Milan most exclusive restaurants where food and art beautifully interact with each other. Of course, you can find paintings, sculptures, installations, photographies and design objects. But what is truly fascinating is that dishes are inspired by contemporary artworks which results in incredible culinary designs.

The hipster one: Le Biciclette — €

Here, the focus is on being edgy more than being fancy. This Art Bistrot curates a wide selection of contemporary artists which creates a very special atmosphere without ever playing the “posh card”. The main aim of Le Biciclette is to include art into everyone’s routine.

NB: The traditional happy-hour of the Navigli area is highly recommended to anyone stepping a foot in Milan.

“NOI CREDIAMO CHE… Il Buon Cibo Non Sia Peccato”

— Le Biciclette.

What is interesting is that, in unconventional exhibition spaces, artists have the opportunity to create interactions with the existing space in order to create synergies and to convey meanings.
Here, art is truly seen as a medium that brings people together by creating tighter communities of people and networks of art enthusiasts.
