Our very best tips to make your crowdfunding video stand out.

Feral Horses is the art stock exchange where to buy and trade shares of contemporary artworks that can generate dividends. We are currently raising £100,000 through the equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs.

#1 A professional video-maker

You’ve been working on fundraising for a while now. The startup is young and the bank accounts are not so full… We know, we know… But, really, according to our experience, no matter how broke, creative and detail-focussed you are, you do need a professional eye to make a quality crowdfunding video for your campaign. The content is key but if the form doesn’t look trust-worthy enough your message will suffer and potential investors won’t even stick around to watch your video if you have background noises, awkward transitions and a yellowish light that make your founders look a little bit nauseous.

At Feral Horses, we have had the chance to work with Tim Jarrosson. We fell in love with his artistic vision and the fact that he is used to working with artists and create videos for a target audience that is very similar to ours.

“Communication is our society’s keyword. Video content is the perfect format to create awareness, catch attention and entice your audience thanks to humour & emotions.”

#2 Self-mockery is key

You have a bit* (= A LOT) of pressure on your shoulders and you want to look your best in your video. Sometimes, it can result in very non-authentic-looking videos.

In our opinion, there’s no need to say that you are great, that you do the best things, that you want to be the number 1...(Unless you want to become the next US president of course) We, startuppers, always aim for greatness and that’s something that we show in the way we make our companies grow and our ideas become real actors of change in our industries.

However, we do have amazing stories to tell but, unless big corporates, we tend to look real, open, and approachable and that’s something that we have to protect and capitalise on. Therefore, it’s ok to tell these stories with self-derision as long as you deliver. Your team is made of crazy individuals who could easily get a normal 9 to 5 but, instead, willingly decide to put themselves out of their comfort zones because they care and believe in your big picture. They most certainly have strong personalities, so don’t be afraid to play with it!

#3 Reflect your values

You need to be fully aware of the set of big concepts that makes your team such a great team!

The personality of the Feral team:
At Feral Horses, we’re like a bunch of peas in a pod. Nobody needs recognition for doing the job right and we’re happy with making fun of ourselves and getting our hands dirty in the process.

We are not sorry for being young:
In the art and the finance industries it’s not always seen as a good thing to be young, so, we really wanted to make fun of it by including the little Marta, 3 years old who is our CEO’s sister, and make her save the situation.

KISS: Keep it simple stupid:
The art investment industry is incredibly inefficient. So, we liked the idea that what we do and what we say is so logical and simple that even a 3-year-old could come up with our perfect pitch.

A CEO with an iron fist in a velvet glove:
We play as hard as we work. We all like a good joke but nobody ever gives up before we deliver perfectly. Our CEO is one of a kind. He’s got a clear vision and is not afraid to put his fingers where it hurts and that’s how we keep on continuously improving.
