“There are moments where some of the political and social issues of today rise more forcefully into art.”

“The Whitney is dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting American art, and its collection — arguably the finest holding of twentieth-century American art in the world — is the Museum’s key resource.”

The Whitney Museum of American Art is, as its name suggests, dedicated to the promotion of American artists and American art. The institution is well-known for acquiring freshly produced artworks and therefore giving their chance to very young artists before they met with success.

This article will take you on a tour of the superb new building designed by Renzo Piano that hosts the artworks of 63 artists and collectives. Of course, this biennial more than any other before, aims at starting a brand new age of “political art” by raising awareness around issues such as hatred towards religions, races, and immigrants but also inequalities at large encompassing sexism, violence and homelessness.

Out of the 63 artists and collectives showcased, almost half are female artists and half are nonwhite.
