Youtube Vloggers Should Be Medium Bloggers
Repurpose your youtube videos into blog post.
Youtube content creators should be using their video ideas and turning them into text format for a Medium blog post. It’s a simple way to get a different audience with the same content. Best of all you can monetize it on medium just like you would on Youtube. Leading to a diversification of your income stream, and becoming less dependent on any one social media platform.
You are not a youtuber, you are a content creator.
It makes sense for you as a content creator to build on different social media platforms. This will allow you to weather any storm that might arise on a platform. Through diversification you’ll never be at the mercy of anyone of them. You can move from site to site depending on the wants and needs of your business model and audience; this is ideal.
A good example of this is can be seen with the content creators who were thriving on Tik Tok, but for one reason or another many of them are currently jumping into other platforms. The Tik Tok creator fund was a good start for them but as it became more saturated the funds disbursed through it became less. Some of these creators are also finding success on other algorithms such as Instagram Reels, Youtube Shorts, or Snapchat Spotlight. Lastly, as companies try to compete with each other the amounts of money to be found on platforms will vary depending on that.
Using the examples of creators on Tik Tok we can see that Youtube content creators are not immune to the same dilemmas. If the warnings are true we all need to seek different streams of revenue to help in what might be a really bad turn of events in the US economy.
A Recession is coming, or is it here?
I’m sure that by now we have all heard the warning bells; there’s a recession coming. Every sector will be affected and one of those industries is YouTube and the ad sense model. That means that content creators that have yet to diversify their revenue stream will need to start as soon as possible.
Think Media, a leader in the content creator space with over 2 million subscribers with a ‘mission to help 10,000 purpose driven entrepreneurs go full-time doing what they love and making an impact through the power of video’, have recently made a video titled “An urgent warning for all content creators”. In it they discussed how ad money is being spent elsewhere such as google ads, the loss of brand deals, a reduction of ad sense payouts, and lastly a lot of the companies that provide services for the content creator sector laying off staff. Meaning that these services will be harder to come by for small content creators leading to more work and possibly more burn out.

Why Blog?
Now, many will tell you to stay in the video context. Try Instagram reels, youtube shorts, Tik Toks, etc. But why not the written word? Many content creators, specially Youtube creators that make long form content create scripts for their videos that could easily be turned into a blog post for the medium platform, (or other blog platforms it’s just medium is my favorite).
The main reason for a blog is that it is working smarter and not harder. For instance, if you do not make a script for your youtube videos, you could easily download the transcript through youtube and tidy it up before uploading to medium. It would be a simple process that wouldn’t be so time consuming. If you have a back catalogue of videos that would be great post for medium you could repurpose so many and really keep a steady upload schedule on medium that would help you in the process.
It would also be a way to further monetized the same content that has already done the runs on video format. The same SEO goes into the blogs that they do for text format. If your video did well, we can assume that the blog would also do well. The last reason is that the requirements to attain monetization on the medium platform is so low that for a youtube creator with a healthy following it would be done in a day, meaning this revenue stream has a low entry point. So jump in and get some money.
Conclusion
As the economy begins to shift all business models need to move with those shifts. Here I have outlined a simple revenue stream that Youtube content creators can tap into that would be easy for them to monetize as well as for them to easily repurpose already made and used content. This would help in the finical woes should they arrive as well as help keep the content creator burnout away from them.
I hope that you found this information useful. I am in the process of trying this out, and will be giving it a month run. After the month I will be sure to provide the community with the found results.
