After being delayed by a minor version, I’m happy to announce the release of KDE Plasma 5.22 to Feren OS’s latest release, now available via Update Manager!

You can see what the changes to KDE Plasma upstream are at https://kde.org/announcements/plasma/5/5.22.3/

Feren OS specific patches

As always, there are some patches made to Plasma in Feren OS. However, some more noticeable ones this time around are:

Mixed theme option in Quick Settings

In KDE Plasma 5.22, KDE has introduced a new homepage to System Settings where you can quickly manage certain settings. However, since it was missing it, I’ve added an option to choose Feren OS’s default mixed style to Quick Settings, alongside Feren OS Light and Feren OS Dark.

I’ll be submitting a Pull Request later (at the time of writing) to add this upstream (but obviously applying Breeze Twilight).

Quick Settings, I guess

Other Patches

  • Added submitted patch that fixes the issue with small width Plasma panels still having reserved space for the Edit Mode Only button.
  • Added code from Show Desktop (Win7) to Margin Separators to greatly reduce their gap size in panels outside of Edit Mode (ever since Plasma 5.21).

Introducing Rounded Window Corners

Now for the most significant change in this release, for Feren OS: I’ve also taken the time to debut a new Desktop Effect that rounds the corners of windows!

…and it’s not stupidly high rounding, either. It’s just 4px on Feren OS, and Breeze’s corner radius on Breeze. Every other theme has no corner rounding applied by the Effect itself.

Now you can finally see why I recently updated the Feren OS theme to be slightly rounded, as this (all corners being rounded) was the plan the whole time when I did that.

Now, uh… I guess I should say the funny phrase again: It’s round now.

…and, well, that’s it. Corners are round now and Feren OS has a new Plasma version in it. That’s all for this announcement, though watch this space as something much bigger is coming in a day or so.

Oh, and it’s nearly Feren OS’s 6th birthday, I guess. July 29th. Thank you for using Feren OS, everyone! (and sorry for any inconvenience these past few months must have caused people, here’s hoping this is the point where we’re past those issues)
