Before the current COVID-induced quarantine times, the relationship gap between dance music artists and their fans was wider than ever. Livestreams seek to fill that gap and offer an opportunity for DJs and producers to connect with their communities in new, unique & interesting ways. Your favorite artists are at home, just like you are, and live chats act as a great equalizer, where fellow artists and fans come together in one active community.

With all this extra time off tour, many top-tier producers have welcomed the world into their studios for a look behind the curtain. Before quarantine, you could send your demo into your favorite label and never hear back. Now, we get the chance to watch as our favorite producers react to what could be the next BIG track in real time. These artists, often seen on large stages or on a well-curated Instagram feed, now seem more relatable than ever.

As far as DJs not DJing is concerned, here are our favorite streamers.

Pat Lok

The Canadian born, LA-based DJ & producer streams on Twitch every Friday for his “Fone a Friend” series, where he pulls a name from his contacts list and goes in deep for an hour of conversation. With friends like A-Trak, Oliver, Moon Boots and more, these are always worth a watch.

Disclosure

The Grammy-nominated brothers take fans into the studio for a session every week to create beats from scratch, or to break down some of their iconic tracks like “F For You”. These streams are must-watch viewing for fans and producers alike.

Dani Deahl

The DSquared Demo Drop is one-part feedback session and one-part artist interview. Dani invites a new guest each week to help her give constructive feedback on tracks, with guests including Subset, Monstercat’s Conor Systrom, and Festival Advisor’s very own editor Kat Bein. What starts as music feedback sessions often lead to tangential conversations of musical journeys and lore.

Treasure Fingers & Henny Shot

Treasure Fingers & wife Henny Shot dove headfirst into streaming the instant quarantine hit. “So So Fed” is her take on a cooking show, and every Saturday night, you can find the dance music power couple on the Dirtybird network whipping up delicious dishes and taking momentary karaoke breaks.

916 Junglist

Every week, Billy Lane dives deep into important topics in the DJ community. He pulls in guest experts that talk viewers through complicated topics, such as licensing and record label ownership. In a time when the future of the music industry is so unclear, this kind of education is more than necessary.

Will Clarke

The man with the most spectacular beard in dance music ran a DJ mix series for several years. His favorite part were the interviews, so he ditched the pre-canned DJ sets and went straight to the chat. With recent guests like Gene Farris, Mikey Lion, Chip-E, Rebuke and VNSSA, every episode presents like a conversation between two intimate friends.

Chris Lake

Once a week, the Black Book Records head honcho and banger merchant lifts the veil on what A&R sessions look like for an independent record label. He gives a frank & direct look into a feedback session, and provides honest opinions on the tracks that are lucky enough to be played. This is a must watch for any aspiring producer.

AC Slater

AC Slater claims he’s teaching his wife Soozie how to DJ so he can take a break from touring once things open back up. Watching someone who’s spent over a decade in clubs teach the very basics of DJing is refreshing and fun. Since learning how to DJ, Soozie has become a fixture on AC’s streams, and she’s getting quite good! Maybe the first post-quarantine Night Bass club night will include a b2b.

Four Color Zack

Four Color Zack takes a break from chopping up beats to ask his fellow DJ friends completely ridiculous questions, like “What’s the best LMFAO song?”, or “What is the fabric you choose to replace your current skin?”. More like an Adult Swim show than a Twitch stream, Four Color Zack is doing it bigger than anybody else.
