Coachella. Does it even need an introduction? As one of the world’s most well-known and renowned festivals, Coachella has been standing strong for 20 years. 2020 hasn’t been kind to festivals due to the COVID-19 crisis. Although there wont be a 2020 edition of Coachella, we can still reminisce on why it remains the King of Festivals. With 20 years of epic sets to choose from, making these picks weren’t easy. Here are our all time favorites — let us know if we missed any of yours.

Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg — Coachella 2012

This epic performance from Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg at Coachella 2012 is one that is seared into most music fans’ memories. Mostly due to the surprise post mortem Tupac hologram appearance, that is. This medley of classic 90’s hip hop is one for the ages. Catch the Tupac appearance at 47:48.

Daft Punk — Coachella 2006

When you think of live electronic music, what usually comes to mind first? Is it the large-scale production & LED lights? Live dance music wouldn’t be what it is today without Daft Punk’s groundbreaking Coachella 2006 set. The duo was the first electronic music act to utilize LED lights within a performance, bringing the placement of the DJ stage from the back of the room during the early years of dance music to front & center.

Beyonce — Coachella 2018

How many Coachella performances do you know earned their very own Netflix movie? The one and only Beyonce completely stole the show at Coachella 2018, earning the nickname ‘Beychella’ from fans. With a full-scale stadium style production that used aspects of Historically Black Colleges and Universities including a marching band, over 50 dancers, and multiple costume changes, Beychella is unlikely to be topped.

Odesza — Coachella 2018

Odesza sticks out in the dance music world due to their unique live performances. For Coachella 2018, highlights included a full drum line, beautiful visuals and a drone show in the sky.

Deadmau5 — Coachella 2010

The use of LED lights within dance music performances grew extensively after Daft Punk’s groundbreaking 2006 set. Prior to 2010, Deadmau5 was known more for his music than his live performances. Check out the debut of his now famous LED cube & mask from the Sahara Tent at Coachella 2010, the set that shot Deadmau5 into superstardom.
