Dear Fetch.ai community,

In this blog post, we’re hoping that we can give you all some insight into this second round of foundation delegations, as well as some adjustments going to be made to previous delegations. That way there’s full transparency between us and the community!

What is a Foundation Delegation?

Just like many of you are currently staking on Mainnet, the Fetch.ai Foundation is also capable of staking, but from the Foundation wallet instead. Why we stake is slightly different though. For the Foundation, staking is mainly to help validators that are in need of extra support to their node, to support validators we have partnerships with, and even as recognition and appreciation towards validators that are standing out amongst the crowd to provide extra assistance or security to delegators across the network.

What changes are being made?

These validators will be receiving support from the Fetch.ai foundation for the first time.

Validators who are receiving a 2nd round of delegations include

Validators are evaluated on an ongoing basis and upon careful consideration of certain metrics, those not considered this time will be eligible once again to receive foundation support the next time. We plan to do the next delegation in 4–6 months time which means Apr-June 2022

Why are we delegating?

As many of you know, recently we’ve been very vocal about the push for the decentralization of the Fetch.ai network and getting the community to redelegate outside of the top 10 validators to aid in this mission so we can create a more secure network overall. But, we also recognize that as the Foundation we have an obligation to ensure we are following this campaign ourselves, and so we have decided to begin another round of delegations to support validators who are contributing to the safety and security of the network.

What factors did we consider?

In this round of delegations we considered a lot of different factors for deciding which validators would be receiving delegations or having their delegations modified, such as their network stability/uptime, participation in testnets, community engagement, accessibility, and whether or not they provide extra protections/security for their delegators. Combining these metrics and the overall resulting score led to the outcome we are sharing with you. We will also be introducing changes on our block explorer next year to ensure the community can also view these social scores assigned to each validator based on the factors we considered. This is part of our campaign to bring transparency around the validators supporting the Fetch.ai network.

What can delegators do?

Network security is of paramount importance and crucial to planned upgrades such as IBC or any other planned for the future. Through this announcement, we are relying on your support to continue to support our efforts on decentralizing the Fetch.ai network. Here is the latest statistic (as of December 6, 2021) on our efforts to decentralize the network and the result of staking outside the top 10 by the community.

We cannot wait to join the #IBCgang and hope this announcement will bring us closer to rolling it out!

Thank you for your continued support.
