The challenge? A complete fiction story in 100 words that includes the random word for the day.

Dear Series Writers…

The editors have found that many readers find some of the stories that rely on a previous Drabble (serials) confusing. Therefore, the editors have decided to stop publishing Drabbles that are part of a series as of April 15th. We hope this gives you time to wrap them up if you choose to.

The challenge in writing a Drabble is telling a complete story in 100 words. If they add up to a larger story they’re not Drabbles, they’re chapters.

You can populate your Drabbles with recurring characters. Cases in point are Gary L Ellis’ Tom and Huck stories, Randy Pulley’s Huey and Arnold stories, and my recurring characters, Viola Belle and Mr. Peabody.

You can still use the words as your prompt and self-publish if it helps you, and you want to continue your series. The good news is, you won’t be limited to 100 words, exactly.

We know 100 words are not a lot, but make sure your story has a plot, a who, what, when, where, and why. And, it helps the reader connect if your character has a name. You want your readers to care. This is the challenge.
