A Long Summer Ahead
Day 185 Drabble — “School” is the random word
Drabbles are short — 100 words exactly. Each one is based on a single random word assigned to be featured in the story. Please read and linger a bit… at least 30 seconds or more so it counts as a read. Enjoy, and thank you!
School’s Out blares on radios of hooligans racing by in cars.
Only song I’ll be singing this summer is, “Get off my lawn!”
“Hi.”
Great. “Hello, hooligan,” I grumble.
“It’s Julian. School’s out.”
A growl escapes. “I heard.”
“That means I can help with things,” the young rugrat follows me to the garage freezer.
I shuffle to the front step. I sit. He sits. “If I give you this ice cream bar, will you leave me alone?”
“No.” He takes the treat.
As I open mine, he pats my back and leans his head on my arm. “Thanks, Grandpa.”
“Grr.”
