A Pessimistic Paper Pile
RWDrabble 2.0. #001 | Cape
A drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words. Today is RWDrabble 2.0 #001 — the first drabble challenge for 2025! The random drabble word is cape, and you must also write a story from the perspective of an inanimate desktop object.
“Today is the day, guys! Be ready!” I instructed, watching Missy tap on her keyboard.
The rest of the papers strewn across Missy’s desk sighed, annoyed with my attempt at optimism.
“C’mon, man. She hasn’t touched us in months,” Mr. Bill replied. He was covered in dollar signs and phrases like “Final Notification” and “We will be forced to take legal action if we do not hear from you soon.”
“I heard her saying, ‘New year, new me’. She’s serious this time!”
“She says that every year,” Ms. Post-It sighed, her cape wrinkled and torn. “We’re not going anywhere.”
Shoutout to Nancy Oglesby and Fiction Shorts for this fun daily challenge!
