Todays drabble challenge words are: spot, coffer, annex, oblivious, operate and cocktail.

Today’s drabble challenge twist is to “use all of this week’s words in a single drabble”.

A drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words. No more. No less.

If you enjoyed this, let me know by highlighting, clapping, and commenting!

As the company accountant, Bert operated with integrity for 43 years.

He kept meticulous records, weeded out nefarious behaviour, and was boring AF.

Yet management remained oblivious to his fastidiousness — no promotions, raises or even a proper thank you.

Spotting an opportunity to drain the company coffers, he no longer hesitates.

Now, beyond reach of the authorities, he lives on the beach of some dictator’s annexed territory, feeling utterly rich — and awfully lonely.

Because Doris refused to come with him.

Every wedding anniversary since, he cries, wondering if she still purchases maraschino cherries in remembrance of their annual Manhattan cocktail.
