“Hang on,” she said to the back of his head as they rushed past the row of shabby houses. “I thought we were going somewhere romantic?”
He slowed his pace, reached for her hand, and smiled.
“Patience, my dear.”
He guided her down the alley and held back the brambles dangling from the open doorway. They picked their way through the decaying remains of the industrial building and stepped out onto the debris-strewn porch facing the ocean.
He tilted his head westwards.
“Romantic enough for you?”
She leaned in for a kiss, as the sun inched towards the horizon.
