As You Slide Down the Bannister of Life …
The forest floor was damp with last night’s rain, the ominous clouds defiantly and stubbornly overtaking the sky.
Sarah’s heart sank. This was her wedding day, one she had put so much effort into, and now there was every chance the dampness would render her beautifully-styled hair a mass of curls.
Magically, just as the piper began, the sun broke through, the temperature rose, and everybody breathed a sigh of relief.
Later her mother delivered a sunny MOB toast:
“As you slide down the bannister of life, may the splinters always face in the right direction.”
Life was great!
If you’re not already on board with writing drabbles, (short, 100-word stories, no more, no less,) do yourself a favour. Get stuck in! They are a lot of fun to write, but also serve as a lesson in tight writing, given the 100-word constraint.
