Margaret moved to San Francisco when she was 17 years old and soon found a job working as a janitor at a primary school in Hayes Valley.

One day the teacher asked Margaret to watch her students for an hour. When she returned, she saw Margaret reading a story to the kids, acting out all of the voices and mannerisms of the characters as she read. The kids were mesmerized.

Margaret was promoted to teacher’s assistant and then teacher.

Forty years later, Margaret retired. She had read to her students and to her own ten children. Her grandchildren were next.
