A Drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words. No more. No less.

The word of the day is the twist. The twist is that we have to use all of the week’s words in one story: spot, coffer, annex, oblivious, operate, cocktail.

I didn’t see it coming in the end.

The trail started easy enough, but things got dicey as we climbed, encountering icy spots disguised as child's play.

I reached out for purchase, catching what should have been a branch but was nought but a glorified twig. The world spun off-kilter as I stumbled, oblivious in my panic to the danger, the sheer drop to my left.

Broken. Have to operate. Months of rehab. Might never walk without aid. Would need to empty the coffers and install an accessible annex.

I sighed into my cocktail glass.

At least there’s whiskey…

This story was inspired by the Random Word Drabble Challenge by Nancy Oglesby at Fiction Shorts.
