After her divorce, Grace, a talented artist, took her two boys to live along the rugged coastline of Western Australia, where the waves magically challenged even the most skilled surfers.

Every morning possible, she and her boys were out there, riding the waves before school.

All of that was before the accident that rendered her a paraplegic.

But then, a brave young friend devised a strapping mechanism that would masterfully carry her on his back, to ride the waves once more.

The time came when she needed further surgery to afford her more freedom, an intervention that claimed her life.

If you’re not already on board with writing drabbles, (short, 100-word stories, no more, no less,) do yourself a favour. Get stuck in! They are a lot of fun to write, but also serve as a lesson in tight writing, given the 100-word constraint.

Here too, is the link to Nancy Oglesby’s Fiction Shorts where you may join and write your own drabbles.
