Today’s twisted drabble challenge features the random word driver. The twist is this first sentence: “You probably won’t believe me.

As always, the drabble story is limited to 100 words.

Let’s hit the gas.

You probably won’t believe me. But it’s true: I have ridden in a car going 100 MPH.

Danno was a good friend but a terrible driver, and he liked to go fast.

One day, while high school seniors, we walked to Danno’s house after school. His brother Dick, who was home from the Navy, said, “Welcome home, fat boy.”

After Danno gulped down pickled herring, we climbed into his AMC Hornet coupe.

Danno drove six blocks to Oakland Avenue, turned right, and tromped the pedal.

After four blocks, the speedometer read 100 MPH.

Danno is still alive 47 years later.
