This is Daily Drabble Journey — short stories of exactly 100 words. Please stay on this page for at least 30 seconds, and let us know you’ve been here with claps, comments or highlights. I enjoy engaging with readers.

Though Keenan was loath to admit it publicly, when the thunderous sounds filled the auditorium, he resented that the applause wasn’t for him.

The stars at center stage bowed and accepted the hand-tossed bouquets. It irked Keenan — at least a little — because he had worked hundreds of hours to get everything just right. And just because he couldn’t speak with that particular accent, he wasn’t invited to participate as a member of the cast.

So it was a complete surprise when he went backstage and they all opened champagne bottles, cheering Keenan, for his quiet role in the background.

LESSONS:
1. Just because you’re not on center stage, don’t think your contribution isn’t appreciated.
2. Like parts of a machine — individuals have unique gifts to offer.
