There was no ice cream in the freezer. How dare Lester eat the last scoop just when Angel’s pregnancy cravings peaked.

She had handled the swollen ankles with grace and endured the growing heartburn uncontested, but satisfying her dietary urges left no room for error. Angel's only demand was that there always be a tub of Rocky Road with added chopped almonds on hand.

The night she opened the freezer unit for a bowlful, her temper flared.

“Lester!” she screamed into the phone. “I want…”

“Honey, I’m bringing home vanilla. I’ve noticed the Rocky Road ingredients are driving you nuts.”
