John and Holly were just voted class couple. The cheerleader captain and the star quarterback. The sweet, popular duo that everybody loved, admired, envied. Together every day since freshman year. Tonight it all ends at graduation. Surviving boot camp and a long-distance relationship won’t be easy. He can’t handle both.

Time to break it off. Rip the bandage.

John approached Holly for a hug, diploma in hand, when the words spewed.

“I leave in an hour. I start basic in the morning.”

John kissed Holly one last time. “You’ll be the most badass Coast Guardswoman to hit the seas.”
