Evelyn and the Deep Dream of Destiny
Drabble 306 | Cabinet
For today’s 100-word drabble, Nancy has challenged writers to use the word cabinet in a story featuring the base camp at the foot of Mount Everest.
The trek to Mount Everest’s base camp had sapped Evelyn’s energy. Weary, she crawled into her sleeping bag and drifted off.
In her dream, a man sat enthroned aside a long table. He barked orders at his twelve cabinet members, who included billionaires, conspiracy theorists, and a pillow maker.
He commanded, “Close the borders and smite my enemies.”
Then, he announced, “I am your king,” to all the people.
Terrified, Evelyn awoke and crept outside. Wildflowers blossomed all around her.
As he ran toward her, a man smiled and proclaimed, “Democracy and goodness have prevailed. We remain a free people.”
