Fight or Float
RWDouble Drabble 2.0.138 | Austere
Today’s drabble challenge word is “austere”.
A double drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 200 words. No more. No less.
If you enjoyed this, let me know!
It was meant to be a relaxing weekend away after a stressful few weeks at work.
Rowan was meant to start the day with a relaxing paddle — not fall asleep and float out to sea.
Letting the small dinghy bob in the swell, Rowan pulled in the oars to rest her arms, just as the wind whipped away her hat.
She wanted to forget the austere budget cuts following the company’s sales slump.
She wanted to blank out Wednesday’s acrimonious business performance meeting about last quarter’s results.
But here in the breezy silence, they filled her thoughts as she tried to return to shore.
As the blazing sun bore down, she rigged her towel to shade her legs and pulled her t-shirt over her head like a nun’s habit.
Once more, she locked in the oars, twisted herself round and rowed towards shore.
Rest… row… rest… row…
Budgets… profit… life… land…
