This is Daily Drabble Journey — short stories of exactly 100 words. Please stay on this page for at least 30 seconds, and let us know you’ve been here with claps, comments or highlights. This story is based on a word from earlier in the year.

Also, I love hearing from readers, so please let me know what you think. Many of us on this journey enjoy engaging with readers and writers. I am one of them. Thank you.

Morning broke through the darkness of the nighttime clouds.
Daniel looked disheveled as he approached his parents’ home, but he knew that wouldn’t matter. He knew that once inside, embraced by his mom and dad, he would melt into their arms and cry out in his agony.

It had been a difficult few months, being away and not talking with them. He knew once he was ready to return, they would welcome him without questions. In his own time, he also knew that he would share more details.

For today, it was enough to know that he was coming home.

LESSONS:
1. Family can feel like a harbor, where a ship can always return.
2. Being alone can feel like a ship looking for a lighthouse.
