“Go to the country. Be one with nature,” they said. I credit all those well-meaning readers who believed they held the answer for how to breathe in new ideas for a sluggard like me.

I’ve lived far too long as a couch potato, addicted to cookies and sappy soap operas. Renting a cabin seemed like the perfect excuse to leave my fabricated stressors behind and meld with the wildlife and the trees.

Then the sun set, and the silence felt louder than the city streets I call home. Those eerie wolf howls became my terror — a nightmare turned real.
