This story is a reflection by Flattop, a mountain in Alaska.

Let me introduce myself. I’m Flattop, an eternal elevation. I’ve been around forever. No prizes for guessing how I got my name.

But it is what it is, and I am what I am.

There was once a time when people feared my height and I was left very much alone.

But then suddenly I became a challenge. Adventurers were inspired by my rough terrain and they set out to scale me, sometimes dying in the process.

I’ve been witness to some atrocities that man puts down to misadventure, but I know the absolute truth.

You only have to ask.
