A Drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words. No more. No less.

There is no word of the day. The twist is to base the story on the image in the prompt.

He remembered the very first trip out on the boat with his Dad: the heady excitement as they barrelled through the breaking waves, the warmth of the sun on his neck as they left it behind on the shore, the way the fishing line caught the flashes of light, everything sparkling in the expanse of sea beneath the boat’s hull.

All that perfectly invincible possibility.

Dad was here with him now, but this was a different kind of trip. Only one of them would be returning this time.

He turned his face to the emergent moon, eulogizing silently, and wept.

This story was inspired by the Random Word Drabble Challenge by Nancy Oglesby at Fiction Shorts.
