Anja hated feeling anxious in 2020. At least by 2023, she had learned practices to manage it, mostly mindfulness and breathing exercises.

Being among the 67% of U.S. adults who experienced anxiety symptoms in 2020, Anja worked diligently on her mental wellbeing. She was one of the fortunate people whose anxiety dropped 2021–2022. Yesterday, reading Statista’s reported increases in 2023, Anja felt kinship again, unfortunately.

If she hadn’t broken up with Edmund, taken a new job, and moved cross country — maybe then she wouldn’t feel quite as anxious. However, she knew and embraced the consequences, striving for the potential benefits.
