Just When We’d Almost Given Up…

Children in clouds with a UFO hovering. AI image generator.

My three children were not one bit adventurous, which could be seen as a good or a bad thing.

One of the positives was we could always trust them. If they asked to do a bike ride on the track near home, the answer was yes. We had discussed stranger danger, we’d talked about not going by the river on their own, but it had never occurred to us that there were things beyond that, things that we hadn’t discussed with ourselves, let alone them.

Three hours passed, the day was gradually coming to an end, and I panicked.

This was atypical behaviour.

“Something tells me we need to get on the track,” I told my husband fearfully. They might have had an accident.”

“Or been assumed into heaven,” my husband joked.

“That is not funny. Stranger things have happened.”

As we ran to the track, I took in a curious, larger-than-usual formation of clouds, and… and that was when I saw our children in the clouds, apprehensive and not sure what to do.

Above them, I spotted a UFO hovering menacingly.

“Do something,” I screamed, as the sky turned black and there was nothing we could do.
